Ben Seartan scored 1-6 as Béal Átha an Ghaorthaidh were crowned Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta senior champions for the first time at Leitir Móir in Galway yesterday.

Picking up from where he left off in the semi-final where he posted 1-7 against An Ghaeltacht from Kerry, Seartan was once again on fire as the Cork outfit - who won the junior title 20 years ago - overcame Naomh Conaill of Donegal on a 2-10 to 0-11 scoreline.

Midfielder Conchúr Ó Loingsigh gave the winners the perfect start when he netted after just three minutes. With Donegal panellist Charles McGuinness to the fore, Glenties hit back with four unanswered points before Béal Átha took control in the second quarter. They rattled off six points without reply, five from Seartan and one from Seán Ó Luasa to take a 1-7 to 0-5 lead into the break.

Last year's Donegal SFC finalists Naomh Conaill were reduced to 14 players shortly after the restart when Brendan McDyer received a straight red card, but they still managed to reduce the deficit to the minimum before Béal Átha put the game to bed with points from Diarmaid Mac Tomáis and Conchúr Ó Loingsigh, and a goal from Seartan seven minutes from the end.

Donegal's Gaeil Fhanada claimed the junior title following a 2-11 to 2-10 extra-time victory over Cill Chomáin of Mayo, while another Donegal club, Gleann Fhinne, defeated host club Naomh Anna, Leitir Móir by 0-9 to 0-4 in the ladies senior decider.

Meanwhile, Micheál Breathnach were victorious over An Cheathrú Rua in an all-Galway ladies junior final.
