Big questions over Meath's composure under pressure. It is bad sign when you keep squandering good leads and this team has been in that habit for a while now. Shows a lack of inner belief and I think that Laois will now fancy themselves to do better after their first run-out last week. Much will depend on injuries and on how many selectorial mistakes the Meath management make this weekend - such as the reselection of Mark Ward and Ciaomhin King. I think this is going to be close and I would not be surprised to see Laois win it, possibly even with a little room to spare. Meath1986 (Dublin) - Posts: 247 - 16/06/2010 19:54:21 679536 Link 0 |

Usually you'd say that Laois had their chance saturday but watching the game its tough to decide who got off the hook. Markymark (Laois) - Posts: 644 - 17/06/2010 08:32:01 679702 Link 0 |
I'm hopeful we'll do it on Saturday. It's really too close for anyone to say they can predict. But any of the media that I read or heard wrote us off last weekend and the only basis they had was that Laois would be cold on our first outing and Meath would have the advantage of having played one already. meaths class in the forwards will do it as long as meaths backs keep tabs on kingston cavanlawd (Cavan) - Posts: 66 - 17/06/2010 18:52:15 680435 Link 0 |

Not massive quality the last day but conditions were terrible. You never know what your going to get with either if these teams I hvae a feeling Meath could edge it on a dry day as they have forward who can win ball and kick points. I'm not sure it'll be a cakewalk for Meath. Laois are a better balanced side, though Meath would have the better scoring potential. Did I read that Crawford is still out? If so, Laois will likely win a fair share of ball. Can't see more than 3 or 4 points between them... could go either way. If O'Rourke plays to potential, it'll be Meath, if not I think Laois should do it... Pericles (Mayo) - Posts: 2521 - 18/06/2010 12:28:06 680916 Link 0 |

I enjoyed the first game and don't care who wins the replay but I expect another exciting match. Suas Sios (None) - Posts: 1558 - 18/06/2010 15:13:01 681106 Link 0 |

Well this is going to be a extremely interesting replay. Meath for me will get better with every match during the year. There forwards are a talented unit but the Laois backs have improved a lot since last year. There full back line is very strong. The meath backs however i feel are a little vunerable. If Donie Kingston shows any of his undoubted potential for Laois then Meath will be in trouble .The more i see of this guy the more i think he s going to be a big star. Its going to be tight i think and another draw could be on the cards. I heard from a very reliable source that Meath Are Magic! Lebowski (Meath) - Posts: 363 - 18/06/2010 16:40:43 681234 Link 0 |
I have just looked at the Paddy Power betting on this fixture and at 7/4 on Meath are a poor bet, while Laois at 2/1 against are very much more attractive odds. There is a lot of talk about the "class" and "quality" of the Meath forwards I but feel this is ill-deserved. This kind of praise will be earned when they prove themselves as a unit against a well-organised defence but as things stand I feel that they still play as individuals and not for each other. The movement of the inside forward line is very ordinary when a fellow half-forward is in possession - Bray and Cian Ward are particularly guilty here. With the exception of O'Brien and McGuinness - neither of whom are playing tomorrow - none of the current mid-field or half back line or good enough or ambitious enough to come from deep and offer themselves as scoring alternatives. Meath are also suffering from a management team clearly incapable making the necessary changes to key personnel and it is now clear that certain players on the Meath team will be picked no matter how poor their displays. This must be very demoralising for more deserving substitutes. Dempsey is a good manager and I think that Laois will win this game by 2+ points and show that 2009 was yet another false dawn for Meath football.
