Mayo Sligo

Call it lads I say Mayo 1-10 Sligo 0-14 The weekend is to be wet. If it was to be dry I might have tipped Mayo but the forecasts have all changed now to say its to be wet, so I think Sligo are the winners

I think the Mayo forward will run riot. There will be no way a defence will stand up to Mayo man Alan Costelloe. Alan will score 1-15 for Sligo in a narrow defeat over Mayo. Mayo 1-16 Sligo 1-15.

Paddyogall -
Not a prayer for Alan Cos to score more than 1 or 2 points. If he does then it'll be a Sligo landslide.
No need for him to be kicking Hail Mary points when he has 7 players from midfield up who can kick points for fun.
Hope AD is 100% fully fit and has his scoring boots on. If not Mayo could struggle for scores and the Waterboy from Balla will have to come back up front to kick a few...

It will be a tight game, Sligo will be up for it no doubt. Mayo should pip it though....

There won't be an awful lot in it but you'd have to fancy Mayo to be 3 or 4 pts to the good in the end. Sligo have a habit of coming close in these games without actually winning them.

Costello all set to face native county

Sligo's Alan Costello
02 June 2010

Sligo star Alan Costello is aiming to plot his native Mayo's downfall in Saturday's Connacht SFC quarter-final.

The half forward was part of the Mayo senior panel in 2004 and '05 before he moved to the Yeats County where he now plays his club football with Coolera-Strandhill. And since declaring for Kevin Walsh's men last year, he has won NFL Division 3 and 4 medals.

"I didn't rush into it, not after being involved with Mayo at underage level and playing with the seniors," he said in the Irish Daily Star.

"But when Kevin contacted me, it had been three years since being involved with Mayo. I hadn't been approached by anyone, maybe I hadn't been playing well enough so I decided to accept Sligo's invitation.

"At the end of the day, I played for Mayo and enjoyed it but I've moved on to Sligo now. I have a job to do and whoever gets in my way, gets in my way!

Costello admits it took him time to get back up to the pace of inter-county football after three years away from that level.

"I hadn't trained at that intensity, at that level, since being in with Mayo so I wasn't as fit as I should have been," he explained.

"I wasn't at a level to really play to my full ability. I've worked hard during the winter, though, and I feel I'm in good shape now."

Dont think Sligo are a walkover, they will enjoy being the underdogs, and hopefully they will rattle the Mayo men's cage!
Up Sligo!

That's not what I heard Pat, but I'm going to assume you might be a bit better informed! Do tell us if there's any change though...

Desperate times when a Rossie is depending on Sligo to beat Mayo, never mind we don't give a toss, we'll take nestor again and i hope to jesus it's in the hyde we take it.

I have it from an insider on the mayo team. They didnt want to win the league final or the last few all irelands, but this time they want to win. I predict they will take to the field in a bold 3-3-2-3-3 formation.

Im not depending on them at all, and like Rossie4life I always root for the underdog.... and that includes ye, when ye normally get hammered in Croker by Meath.
Always root for the underdog!

Don't bother rooting for Mayo anytime, we don't need ye. Come to think of it don't you think you would be better off concentrating on your own team or even a pool team or something?

Five changes from the league final. Major blow that alan dillon isnt available. Johnno must be picking on form. Surprise not to see aidan o'se make it but good to see seamus given the nod.

If this game was in Croker Sligo would win it by a landslide. They play their best stuff up there. The same could not be said of the Rhubarbs(Dublin 06 excepted).
However with the game in Markievicz I would expect Mayo to prevail by 3/4 pts.

So a venue, a neutral one at that would make for such a difference, a landslide victory for Sligo in croker and only because its in Sligo, Mayo you predict to win by 3/4 points.

I don't know, must of been something in the London air last weekend, me thinks.
