Not long to Laois - Kildare match.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I was talking to a very wise old kerry man last night (you know who im talkin about).
He told me that he reckoned the current Kildare team are as good, if not better, than the famous 4 in a row kerry team.
And this is a man who would know all about it.

Roll on the Leinster Final. Not even goin to bother travel to Tullamore as this should be so one sided. Anything less than a 6+ victory for Kildare and I'll have doubts about how much we'll win the Leinster final by. We've a long glorious summer ahead so would suggest leaving some of our key men on the bench for this one.

I'd say give that Kildare team hurls and they'd give us a real game in the Leinster final. I just dont trust Dubs with sticks.

Horse...are you doing a psychology course?! If you are ya should move past the 'reverse psychology' chapter! It aint working. I admire your passion for our beautiful county but your posts are all the same and starting to hurt my head, and i love my head, cause i'm really really, ridiculously good looking!! Tight game comin up i'm going for a draw. What's your score predictions? Real ones...

Very good Derfil! Seriously now - plamas over. If ye want me to give an honest view, this is it; The flourbags never beat us when it matters. The only day I can remember them doin it was the time they were down to 13 men. A complete freak of a result against a rediculously young and inexperienced Laois side. I like Kildare and I like Kildare people. If ye do win Ill support ye in the final for sure. Decent punters. I always said McCreevy woulda made a much better replacement than Cowen, and admired his stance on betting tax. But do i fear them? No way. Id fear the biffos or westmade much more. ditto meath. Kildare teams have always suffered from a bit of an inferiority complex or something against Laois. I cant put my finger on it exactly but ye rarely seem to have the necessaries to get one over on us. Someone posted here the other day that Kildare have only beaten Laois 3 times in the champo in the last 80 years. Dont know if thats exactly true but I would not be surprised. Likewise, I remember about 3 years ago - i went to newbridge for a league game, and the kildare fans were over the moon to draw with us in their own back yard. I cannot see us being bet on saturday. My prediction; Laois 21 Kildare 9. We've one hand on Delaney already ;)

Horse, just going back to what you said about the only time you can remember us beating you, the day with the 13 men was not a "freak result", yes ye were very young but in my opinion that was a great Kildare team that were very unlucky to lose to Meath after 3 games, players like Rainbow, Ryan, Dalton, Buckley, Ken Doyle, McCreery were in their prime. Also the 2 players that were sent off that day (Lynch and Johnny McDonald) were excellent players, so freak result?? I think not......I think you also forgot the following year when we hammered ye in Croke Park on way to winning Leinster, in fairness ye lay down after about 20 mins and Niall Buckley scored a goal direct from a 45. But overall Laois are a very tough team to play against and I expect ye to really put it up to us on Saturday night, my biggest fear is everyone is really expecting Kildare to win handy but those of us who follow Kildare all year know it wont be anything like that

Willie nelson...you sure are very knowledgable on gaa for a famous country singer! I'm impressed! Yeah your right, be a tight game, but a lot of kildare people are v confident. So much so in fact that i was tackled in portlaoise one evening by a lady who wanted to bet 100e that yed win leinster! This was before ye even met offaly. Lot of people dont know what there talkin about!

Marky, I even see it in my own town, people who dont normally go to games are all getting into the hype. Thankfully I have seen all this before and was let down more times. There is not much that seperate the remaining 4 teams in Leinster, all quite capable of beating one another. But Leinster badly needs a new winner this year.

Lads, we have nothing to fear next Saturday, Kildare will not score anymore than 12 - 14 points and 1-13 will be sufficient. And to be honest it is easier to see where our score will come from. In the full-forward line Donie will get 1-2, Ross will get 0-2 while MJ will get maybe 5 frees and add a couple from play. In the half-line, POL is in the form of his life and I would say that he will score twice as will Bruno and Clancy. JOL will be good for a point and also Quigley. That would give us a potential of 1-18 or 1-19. I would think that these are realistic targets and easily achievable

On the Kildare side. John Doyle is having a poor season and only contributes from frees (0-4, I reckon). The other main scorers Smith and Cavanagh both got 1-3 in the last round and I think that these were aberrations and probably a total of 0-5 between the pair would be more realistic. Early, Sweeney and the centre forward may contribute a point each giving them a potential of maybe 12 points

Dont agree with hin but I do admire his confidence

Have to say that I agree with all the Kildare fans - all the speculation about the Kildare team is coming from outside the county although we are feeling a bit more confident now than in the last 6/7 years Kildare are by no means sailing through Saturdays match!!

Clancy is an outstanding player and with him on any team - the opposition (ie us) has to be wary!! The amount of frees the Lily's are giving away aswell is worrying and any team that are able to convert these to scores will have a huge advantage.

All in all hoping for a nice CLEAN game in BIFFO Country where we Lillies scrape by by 2/3 points!!
