Not long to Laois - Kildare match.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Laois fans are here talking it down and Kildare fans are talking it down.

The difference is laois support is realistic but I feel Kildare support are only playing down their chances because they know their hot favourites and ALL the pressure is on them.

I laois lose Saturday we'll head to familiar route of qualifiers without much damage done to our team because nothing is expected but imagine if little old laois beat Kildare?

Make no mistake about it anything less than a comprehensive win versus Laois and a leinster final appearance for Kildare is total failure this year.

I think Kildare fans would agree.

I think Kildare are favorites and rightly so they are a good bit further on than Laois are big and strong well organized and well trained plenty of talent all over the field Doyle and Smith are well able to win their own ball and score but its a local derby and who knows .

Good post Spud you covered it all there especially the good natured rivalry between the two counties and most importantly the respect down through the years and not the trash talking rubbish a minority like to engage in which has crept in recently.

I belive you have hit the nail on the head there Baxter.
THis laois team is now at a low ebb as it is in transition. We do not expect to win, and indeed will be happy enough if we can keep within 6 points or so of Kildare this year.
Kildare are really flying it at the moment, im sure they would not be so foolish as to devote too much thought and effort to the laois game, when really they should be thinking about how they will get the better of Dublin on what will be their glorious 12th.

Ive never seen a kildare team play with such natual abandon - they will surely overun laois without breaking a sweat.
As I said before, they just need to be careful not to pick up any niggly little injuries in this tie - as it would be a shame for any player to miss the leinster final for such a silly reason.

My only fear for kildare would be that some of their players might not be looking at the bigger picture - and might burn themselves out in the laois game - only to flop against Dublin. They need to be aware of this danger and keep something in the tank for the big day in croker.

Really excited about the match! Cant wait. Think kildare have the winning mentality and an extra championship match so they deserve to be favorites. Laois haven taken a big scalp in leinster in a few years so a derby against our neighbours is welcome! Donie kingston, ross, and mj be used more saturday i expect because i cant see kildare allowing us to carry the ball from midfield. So fast low ball to the corners or high ball to kingston is in order.

Horse, ur talkin a lot of horse ****. Kildare havent been as impressive as u might think, they bet a poor offaly and wexford team, without impressing themselves, they got off to a good start in both games, which ultimately was the winning of both games. i dont expect laois to let them have a good start this time around, if anything i expect laois to win this game. maybe ur trying reverse psychology, by talking up kildare and telling them to concentrate on the final. i think laois have the more talented players but kildare have the physicality, will be interesting to see who wins

'Horse' should it not be goldfish coz you seem to have a short-term memory similar to one. Jesus like we get it Kildare shouldn't try to hard against Laois because of their upcoming Leinster Final that you reckon we will cruise to. That's 3 posts in 1 thread with the same carp. Stop ruining a decent thread.

Anyway back to the game in hand. Yes Kildare will be disapointed if we lose this as we have the better run at it but no point saying Laois won't have as much to lose. Any honest Laois man will know at this stage that when things start to go wrong ye are far from a happy camp, one loss and next it'll be off with Dempsey's hed.
Kiladare are intent on giving Geezer plenty of time so another run in the qualifiers would not be the end of the world, in fact it might settle the hype. We're far far from the finsihed article and like it or lump it the Dubs are a good bit ahead of either of us.

There's only one game Kildare focusing on and thats Laois next Saturday. I'd be worried with the pace of the Laois forwards so be happy to stick with them for 60 mins and push on in the last 10 mins or so. Also think Laois corner backs not great and wont be able to hold Smith or Doyle. May the best team win and if its to be Laois, we'll wish them well in the Leinster Final.

dHorse...You ain't fooling anyone in Laois or Kildare with them posts.

I know as i said both camps very well and altough i'd favour Laois because of family connections I also have great time for Kildare.

Kildare are rightly 4/7 with Laois been 7/4 but there is always a chance that Laois could beat them the very same chance that Antrim could beat Cavan.

In saying that I can see this year just been one year too early for this Laois side and kildare would be better equipped to give the Dubs a rattle should theovercome westmeath which is by no means a cert either by the way.

Smith,Sweeney,Doyle,Callaghan and Kavanagh are all really strong forwards and Kavanagh and Callaghan got 6 points between them from play against Laois the first day in the league.

Then again Laois did only have 2 players playing out of the 6 in the backs that should start Saturday evening.

The four players coming in,Ryan,Timmons,Rooney and O Loughlin have average height of over 6-2 whereas the four that played the first day against Kildare where average 5-9 that is a massive difference kildare dominated in the forwards that day and bullied Laois off the ball I don't see that happening Saturday evening.

Kildare have two matches under their belts but how good were Offaly and wexford?

I think wexford are not as bad as people make out.Yes Forde was a big Loss but Lyng in one of the top forwards in the country and they had Kildare on the rack for the last 15 mins of the first half in Carlow.

Wexford would be a stronger team than Louth and Laois found it more difficult to put Louth away.

The midfield battle should be good but i think Meaney can do a job on Early he has the stamina to stay with him and won't be pushed around.this would mean clancy up against Flynn.

Clancy cleaned Flynn in first 20 mins in O'Moore park this year and it was only when Laois took the Hard working Garvan off Early that dermot started showing the player he can be when given the freedom to impose his game.

I don't care what people think about Leinster football this has the potential to be a cracker and I think either of these teams would give anyone except the big 3(Cork,Kerry,Tyrone) a right good game on their day....

It should be open stuff Saturday evening I'm glad I got a ticket to see it and lets hope the ref lets the game flow...

Heart says Laois but head says a scoreline of Laois 1-13 Kildare 2-14

Roll on Sat!

Maybe your right Moore, but certainly the Kildare folk have every right to expect to win this one convincingly, and look forward to a great day out in Croker against the Dubs. Im sure the Kildare management will be focussed on trying to remind the players that they have to beat Laois first, but realistically they need to be preparing for the sterner test Dublin will provide.

You never know, sometimes the minnows can pull off a shock - maybe we'll get lucky. But on form youd have to fancy kildare by a significant margin.

of course ill go to the game, as i always do. But i will travel in hope rather than expectation.
Kildare on the other hand have one hand on the delaney cup already.

Having watched Kildare beat a poor Wexford team i wasnt impressed Dermot Earley picked up alot
of handy ball at midfield I Think Laois have a better mid field Laois to win by 3 points

HS previews are in, kildare tipped as favorites. No suprise really. Hoping for a great game. Laois, for a team with some brilliant forwards score on average 1-13, always annoyed me. Love high scoring games. Anyways, no doubt laois has a more talented bunch of players but i think kildare could win this. I do feel however if laois manage a draw with the lily's it would bring them on well and i'd fully expect laois to run out winners on a 3+ winning margin the following week. So for sunday i'm expecting a 1-13 to 16 point draw.

Therell be a mad scramble for tickets from Leixlip to Monasterevin and no doubt about it.
I remember the day we got that flukey win against them back in 05 - they had a great crowd up, id say there was at least 30,000 of em up for it.

But if you think the scramble will be bad in july just wait till august n september, when kildare will be bossin the business end of the championship. Itll be pure madness. The glory days are back for Kildare alright.

Great supporters no doubt, exactly what this great Kildare team deserves.
