Hopefully Ricey has learned his lession. There should be a lot of open football in the championship with the new rules. When these cynical and off the ball challenges are removed it presents a great platform for true football talent.

Judging by the positive reaction these new rules are receiving at the moment, there is a fair chance that they will be passed at congress. We've had the January fixtures and two rounds of the NFL & no complaints. Roll on the summer when we will be able to see fast open football without the thuggery which we have witnessed in the past.

I believe that the CAC has got it right with the appeal. Hopefully the GAA will continue to show zero tolerance to breaches in discipline. I also believe that the Tyrone County Board will do the honourable thing and let this decision stand. Sure he has only another five weeks to serve, three weeks if he had taken his initial medicine.

Doesn't matter if its 7 in the morning or past midnight, you're chatting about him. Seriously, what is the obsession? (Apart from the obvious "I'll try to goad these boys into a big slagging match" routine) Run back to Roscommon

JackL its a shame you don't have a county of your own to support, that you need to trawl the tyrone forum.

Games only work when the rules are applied consistently, communication between refs and players is good and rules allow refs to act confidiently with authority. You have to look at the authority rugby refs have with increasingly complex rules. If that ref in the Kerry Tyrone game had acted consistently, talked to the players and worked with his linesman none of this would have happened; but would Tyrone have lost by a lot more? Winning by groping or questioning the morality of your marker's mother is not good and if a team does this by the time the big games arrive noone will have any sympathy for them.
On the other hand there is no rule that calls for an 8 week suspension for what Ricey was reported for so that is inconsistency of the worst kind and trial by media is extremely destructive to the game as a whole. Couple that with inconsistent gutless application of the new rules and we are on the road to destruction whilst if these new rules are applied consistently and officials cooperate well in big games we will have the best game in the world again. Ricey's treatment is just an example of media madness and inconsistency caused by vague rules badly applied; forget it take the hit and concentrate on proving Tyrone can do it all playing football tough and fair without sledging.

Just to reply to P 32. I'm not from Roscommom. I'm a GAA supporter who likes fair play. Now to see the GAA standing up to discilpline that is what sport is about. As I said b4 if you do the crime do the crime. We all love fair play

I wonder back in 1991 when Louth played Laois in croker and the whole match ended up in what must have been the worst scenes of violence on the pitch at HQ it made Dublin v Meath look like a clash of the WI . What punishment was handed out then?

Back in 1991 this was honest football with hard knocks given and taken, all the action happened on the ball. This is totally different to the carry on today. The incidents in 1991 were dealt with under the regulations back then. They did not have the technology or expertise which they have today. Why dont you trawl back throught the 40s or 50s to see what you can dig up and try to justify the actions of ricy.

Re 1991 I suggest you look on youtube and you'll see the disgraceful scenes I referring to and it didn't happen on the ball!

Good to see the County Board accepting the penalty. Perhaps if they had kept quiet and let ricy serve his initial 6 week ban his suspension would be near over. Just goes to show that crime does not pay. If we had the culture that GAA should be played in the right spirit theen it would be enjoyable to all. Well done to the GAA on the way they handled this incident.
