Real lesson in playing Kilkenny teams. If you're off the boil for even a short time during a game, you'll be punished mercilessly. You're used to being able to make mistakes against Meath teams but against a team that boasts All Stars and All Irelands in their midst and you'll regret it. Two absolutely horrendous goals to give away at the most crucial times in the second half and it seemed like the long season finally caught up with us. Was beginning to believe when we went back 6 up after Danesfort pulled it back. But hopefully that will stand to us next season.

And evidently rumours of Richie Hogans retirement were unfounded (unfortunately).

Ratoath will dominate hurling in Meath for the next decade. Nobody can compete with their numbers. But it will likely come at a cost to their football team who are already starting to fall into a state of mediocrity! That's the price of prioritising hurling success which feels like a greater achievement than it actually is! And expecting that it won't catch up on Dual players eventually.

Not sure how you're coming to that conclusion. We've an excellent senior team at the moment but we don't have the same quality of players coming up from underage teams. Trim won 5 of the last 7 U21 hurling titles and 4 of the last 7 minor hurling titles. I'd be of the opinion that Trim's underage success will come good at senior level very soon and they could indeed dominate in the not too distant future. It took until the last 10 minutes of the semi final for us to shake Trim off while Kiltale should have beaten us in the drawn final. Those results don't point to potential domination over the next 10 years.

Senior footballers were very poor in the final this year but have either won the senior football championship or been knocked out by the eventual champions each year since 2019. Would have preferred more success but it's not exactly mediocrity. And you can't exactly stop talented dual players if they want to tog out in both codes. I would have thought that the likes of Ratoath and Trim should be praised for challenging at the business end of both senior championships.

I must say the hate from some of the die hard the football side of ratoath towards their hurling success is very sad to see yearly if the footballers fail to win.

I say trim are very much able to compete with their numbers, and 100% have been better at underage.

I think you will find that clubs with larger populations will generally always dominate underage success. With the exception of a few smaller clubs that get a golden generation.
They will have players playing at their proper age category where rural clubs will have 5-6 lads of the proper age and the rest made up of younger kids.
For all their success over the years trim have hardly dominated at the adult grade, similar to Navan 25+ years ago. Retaining those players is the key and the larger clubs seem to struggle to do that.

I remember reading reports a few years back after trim won about how they will dominate for 10 years.
Can we not just accept we have a good championship on our cards.
In the past 10 years it has been Kiltalex3 Kildalkeyx3 Trimx2 and Ratoathx2
Bigger towns and areas have there own challenges when it gets to senior while villages have disadvantages at underage.
For example, 7 of the 15 that played for Trim in the 2022 final were available for selection this year due to emigration!
