You must work for the channel. Overly defensive throughout the thread

Well you know if they increased the tv licence we'd be getting the gaa, world cup soccer and rugby, the euros, club rugby, champions league the list goes on with sport plus all the other programmes as well...Gaa+ charges over half the tv licence fee but all we get are gaa games...what % of rtes full years broadcasting would that be?? Id day a fraction of 1%... If GAA+ charges is it €95 per season (very short) then why shouldn't €95 of tv licence bearing fenced for showing GAA matches??? Logic?

This is supposed to be a discussion forum. Not a reactionary forum to other people's points. If you dont like my view then fair enough but cant you make a counter argument?

You can count me into the free loaders bracket, every 31st January we head to Leitrim for the raw materials to make St Brigid's crosses. Farmer says we can cut away till our hearts content.

Reports today saying rte are looking for another bail out from the government. Is this why the gaa are looking to move away ? Are rte losing viewers ? Kew (Galway) - Posts: 344 - 08/07/2026 10:42:04 2684797 Link 0 |

I think TV as we knew it and know it, will fade away like the newspapers and the letters in a generation or two. Unlimited content flying into mobile devices these days, very likely RTE are losing viewers. There can't be many stuck viewing TV ads anymore in this day and age.

If RTE TV does fade away at some stage the obsolete TV licence should fade away with it. It's with us since 1962. Current TV licence holders could then have a choice where to spend their €160. Government could still claim VAT back on some of that 160 if they decide to spend any of it. They'll continue to rake in money from tax broadcast hardware and software and other internet activities like online shopping. At least consumers then would have a choice where to spend some of their money and not be penalised by funding a station themselves and their children rarely watch.

The Munster final is the only game this year Clifford has been on show for everyone up to this point in the championship. They should be promoting him more ,not for the paywall apologists. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2949 - 09/07/2026 15:15:08 2684958 Link 0 |

So you can sit in your comfy chair at home with your dodgy box having invested SFA in the GAA? The people who are able & interested in seeing David Clifford go to a game. The GAA isn't here for your convience. Square_B (Leitrim) - Posts: 2261 - 09/07/2026 16:58:58 2684987 Link 0 |
