RTE Competitions

What was the reason for RTE to no longer provide a number for Irish citizens in the North to enter RTE competitions?? I never entered any of these competitions myself so not a major issue for me but for others this must seem mean or exclusionary?? PIus also very annoying when RTE sports programmes on Sky are blocked in the North but this is likely due to rights issues which is more understandable?? Is this an endorsement of/ recognition of partition on the part of RTE?? Also when there was a number for Northern viewers did they have a fair chance to win as I never remember anyone from the six counties winning an RTE competition?? Although I remember years ago a good number of people from the North being on that show so they had a fair chance.

Can people living in the South enter BBC Northern Ireland competitions?

Why make everything so political redandblack?

Its rights issues and legal issues. nothing to do with partition and certainly not any endorsement of it. dont read into things so much.

It's not all one way traffic. BBC NI for example don't give the weather forecast for the Republic.

What was the rationale behind the decision of RTE to stop people in the North entering competitions when there was a number for people in the six counties for years until 2019?? Surely that looks a pointed decision. Not seeking to make this political was it due to a change in RTE management??

You are correct 100% but the BBC is part of the British Broadcasting Corporation and will never be neutral. It is expected. Partitionist decisions on behalf of RTE are not expected??

Don't know the answer to this I presume not although they should be able to.

UTV didn't give the weather forecast for the Republic either years ago but have done for many years now which is good to see.

I will assume something to do with rights or legal issues. you clearly are seeking to make it political as you always focus on North south things, well almost as much as Ulsterman does!!

Is this all we have to worry about in this day and age? The mind boggles.

Get a grip of yourself , it's only a money making exercise any how. If we were allowed to enter in the 6 county's someone would complain that it's a form of gambling. Who gives a flying f.

Some competitions are limited to those obliged to purchase a TV licence. I know of a Tyrone family who have won a few competitions on RTE but they use the address of their holiday home in Donegal when entering and they pay for a TV licence at that address.
RTE refuse to confirm but it is suspected that they run a quick check before announcing a winner to see if there is a TV licence at that address. It probably wouldn't go down well that a competition winner avoided buying a TV licence when the prize could be valued from €10,000 to €20,000 when spending money is included.
