Replying To Tom1916:  "I heard that Galway objected to Croke Park as Derry would have more fans there that day and it would be unfair!! Not sure how true that is!!"
I would be surprised if we objected. We usually take whatever sort of dung gets thrown at us , without as much as a whimper.

If your county get to Croke Park - embrace it"
Its the counties that are constantly in Croke Park that complain about being sent up there.
I see there was commotion in Kerry County Board over the quarter finals being played in Croke Park - some lad was going on about how it should be played in Limerick (which no one in Mayo would agree to ever again).

For the like of Kerry and Mayo, another trip to Croke Park before a semi or final is just a nuisance.
A senior Q final for the likes of Antrim would have to be in Croke Park because its so rare -
but for Mayo, this will be a 3rd trip to Croke park this year already, with a potential 2 more after that.
It will be Kerrys 2nd with a potential 2 more also. Thats a lot of time and money for those fans, when in reality, the league final, the Mayo v Kildare match and Kerry v mayo qfinal, would all have been better off being played in Thurles, or Tullamore, or Salthill.
When I first went to Croke Park as a young lad in the early 90's, it was only for a semi or final and it was a big cost back then because no one had any money. The Celtic tiger changed that, but we age getting back to huge costs for fuel, food and accommodation so the GAA need to start thinking about regional locations again.

But when you see the crowds for the Tailteann Cup and/or Roscommon v Clare, you see that the interest in football just isnt there. Between them, Roscommon and Clare had only won one match in Croke Park since 1980 and yet they couldnt get 15,000 supporters between them to go to Croke Park to watch a match they had an excellent chance of winning.

The GAA could be helped more if they could get Iarnrod Eireann to run the Mayo, Galway, Kerry, Cork, Kildare, Clare trains through Hueston station and straight to Drumcondra via the phoenix park tunnel on match days.
You can get a commuter train to go that route on a Monday morning but not a Sunday evening of a big match.

Next week end will be a disaster for Mayo, Kerry, and any Galway fans trying to get from Croke park to Hueston station for a 7:00pm train after a 4:00pm throw in. You either have to leave early (which will look terrible on TV) or sprint across town as getting a taxi or bus will be impossible. That essentially rules out anyone over 50 taking the train home.

Totally agree with everything you say. Everyone enjoys Croke Park but there is a happy limit. Kerry v Mayo senior and minor should have been a stand alone fixture somewhere halfway between both county grounds. Instead for some Mayo people who will go to both matches 6 to 700 miles isn't out of the question.

Tailteann Cup crowds have been good Pairc Sean was wedged for both Leitrim games vs Antrim and Sligo. I assume its the same for most other counties in T cup. But I agree I dont understand the T cup semi being played in Croker. If they want them to be in croker play them the same weekend as a opener all ireland semis. These qualifiers and even some all ireland quarter finals should be in neutral venues and acc fill out the stadium to boost the atmosphere. Also i think a great idea would be to allow fans to drink at games. I was at the London game earlier in the year and it was great craic it really boosted the atmosphere everyone stuck around after the game at the beer tent. If it can be done in rugby and other sports why not the GAA. Even during the game let there be a two pint limit with your ticket if your afraid it could get out of hand. The GAA really just need to do better to sell the game.

You must have interpreted my post incorrectly. I agree it was a bit over explained but basically I was trying to note that Derry fans can actually see their minor and seniors on the same day albeit at different venues. Nothing about Clare who have a right good chance of turning them over in the senior q/f.

Trying to limit people to 2 drinks per ticket would be a pain to manage and what sport/stadium limits people to that low an amount?

You can drink in Croke Park just not in your seat.

You cant really count a Ruislip game, no different to Gaelic Park, the whole thing is a jolly, hence the pints.

If Sligo V Offaly was in Carrick or Mullinagar, would it get 15-20k supporters? Not this year but maybe in a few years if the Tailteann cup takes off

Lots of debate about your points there.
(1) Pairc Sean was nowhere near full for the Sligo game.. I'm not sure what the capacity is but maybe 70% at most.
(2) I would have Zero interest in drink at a game.
We have it in Croke Park and that's fine for me.
Equally London have it and rightly so as it's the main ground
