Kildare Vs Dublin - Leinster Final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I won't be reading much into the Dublin display

They finished the goals well but defensively it was a very poor showing from Kildare, I don't agree that Dublin would have done the same against any opposition on the day, think that's just wishful thinking and papering over obvious deficiencies

Better teams have nullified Dublin on plenty of occasions and made it very difficult to even get a couple of good chances for a goal over 70 minutes

Kildare weren't at the races at all and it was a bit of a shambles.

Dublin just did the basics well and at pace, it was more than enough on the day to open up Kildare.

Very naive stuff from kildare, going man for man with that full forward line was a strange decision I doubt any other team would risk it. When they finally pulled in a sweeper they had him placed incorrectly so Dublin were just able to kick the ball over him. Dublin looked very sharp played some great ball into the forwards, they will put it up to any team on that showing, kildare have a lot of work to do, they are not as bad as that scoreline suggests but didn't look prepared at all for dublin

Replying To bdbuddah:  "Put Dublin into Ulster and the interest in the Ulster championship would fall off, like what happened in Leinster when Dublin win the first 5 or 6 Ulster championships they compete in and the penny drops with people up there that this is the new normal."
The provincial system is broken and has been for years. There is one top team in Munster and one in Leinster, 3 in Connacht and 3 or 4 in Ulster. Kerry and Dublin will always be strong no matter what format is used but the GAA should at least devise a championship that is competitive, fair and interesting for the spectator. The Ulster championship could still be played as a separate knockout competition.

We were at it pal.

But i agree with you here, i think Kildare went into the game a bit over confident and naïve in their set up, maybe based on the league game.

Think Glen Ryan dropped a massive clangers, all a learning process for him.

hard to know where Dublin are at to be honest, ill be interested to see us when someone throws the snare on us and how we react and also this Dublin back line up against a strong forward unit, Hyland and Flynn got joy at the weekend and we conceded a healthy score. We arent going to post a 32 point total every game.

Yeah about 31,000 - the decision to have it on European finals day won't have done it any good. Add that it was a Saturday evening as well . . . . I'd recon you'd have had an extra 20,000 at it if you had it the following day. Very poor decision by the Leinster council.

The hurling final will have a poor enough crowd as well - a big part due to the Saturday evening throw in.
