Jack O'Connor lead Kerry to All-Irelands in 2004, 2006 and 2009. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 7758 - 15/05/2022 10:36:52 2417174 Link 0 |
They also beat Cork, by I think 10 points, in 2003 and got to the Munster final. oneoff (UK) - Posts: 1375 - 15/05/2022 11:31:59 2417192 Link 0 |
That was a fine Limerick team and they really should have won at least one Munster title. They threw that 2009 final away - they completely dominated the game but kicked some atrocious wides and both Cork goals came totally against the run of play. On another occasion, they were 3 points up against Cork in the 70th minute of a semi-final but Cork got two goals in injury time to win it.

Gaillimh, I was at the game in Pairc Ui Caoimh. Everything you say is spot on. Our free taking was very poor, but worst pf all was our poor support. There was only 9,000 people at that game and it seemed that even at that only a very small fraction were from Limerick. Those great old servants, many of whom were then coming to the end of their playing days deserved far better.

Am I right in saying that this game is to be played in Killarney. Since '1932 Limerick will have played Kerry in eight Finals, including a 2004 replay and if is the case only two of them will have been played in Limerick. Surely this should not be agreed to and would never happen in hurling finals.

Kerry and Limerick have a home and away agreement. It is very straightforward.

Yes Legendrix, but in Hurling the actual Finals are separate from early round games and they are played Home/Away.

I think we'll be seeing Limerick in a few Munster finals for the next few years. It'd be a pity to miss out on a trip to Limerick. I don't think any supporters want to be travelling to Cork. The final is the way the cookie crumbles.

2003 or 2004 national league division 1 semi final in the gaelic grounds - Limerick went in ahead at half time despite playing against a big breeze - Kerry had a man sent off just before ht as well. I'll never know how we lost that game - just couldnt get over the line in big games v Kerry.

I do know how Limerick lost that game. Kerry made a tactical change at half time in that league semi-final.

Theres a lot of competition for hearts in Limerick, Rugby & Hurling are the main crowd pullers and soccer is very strong in the city. Its the boring styles of play in general Gaelic Football on TV that has suppressed any interest in the Limerick public who're all ready spoilt for choice with other codes. Ask a random 100 people in Limerick whos in the Ulster Final and id be surprised if ten knew whereas in Kerry 90 would probably know . All these hurling matchs which are most GAA peoples main interest are draining the pockets and you have the u20 final Sunday as well.Kerry in Killarney will draw a far bigger home support than Cork ever would in PUC . Killarney is a more attractive outing than PUC for casual Limerick supporters so should be a reasonable Limerick crowd present .
