Henry Shefflin New Galway Manager

(Oldest Posts First)

Well I don't think anyone saw this coming be interesting to get opinions from Galway and Kilkenny supporters about the appointment one thing for sure it's brought the buzz back 2 Galway hurling after a dismal 2021 championship.

I think it is good move for Galway, it hasn't gone down too well in bhis home county, I have a lot of connections and most of the comments would be unprintable.

They already have a great manager and a lot of All Irelands so it surprises me they would begrudge Shefflin in his new capacity. Did they expect him to just mope around and wait for Cody to leave?

Great move for Galway, they'll be a different animal under Shefflin. Any word on backroom team yet?

Why? I can't see why anyone in Kilkenny would have an issue with Shefflin managing Galway.

If anything they should be proud of him being needed by another county to lead them.

Its interesting to see, will he get another go out of the current panel or will he put his faith in youth?
My own thinking is a 3 year term he broached he would develop another team

I'd say it will be a bit of both. Some young and some old. Some of the old guard might come off the bench.

They need buzz alright. For what looks like a very strong panel the championship was a wipeout. Hope they get back into the mix

I don't know who you'd be talking to but certainly no one I know. Anybody I've spoken to about it is either indifferent to the move or intrigued to see how he'll get on, and certainly don't expect him to turn down a high profile County job to stay in charge of Thomastown! In fact, if he is seen as heir apparent to Cody, a successful spell as Galway manager (say, League or Leinster championship, AI Final appearance etc. ) would strengthen his case.

Good move for both parties. Galway are coming off the back of a disastrous year so any sort of improvement will be seen as progress, and Shefflin will have a lot of talented young hurlers to choose from who haven't fulfilled their potential, the perennial story with Galway.

I agree that Henry is the heir apparent to Brian Cody, whenever he steps down. Would there be any other candidates on the radar as Kilkenny manager?

Maybe DJ Carey?!? But I agree Shefflin would be the favorite for it. But a lot depends on how he does with Galway.

A successful spell for Henry in Galway will be delivering an All Ireland title during his tenure. Firmly believe the tools are there and I'd say he does too. He wouldn't have taken it otherwise.

I agree. Plenty of talent in the County. I hope he can harness it all. Galway Abu!
