Lomans surely favourites with their experience but this Portarlington team are young and won't fear Lomans. They have been Laois form club team for the last three years. By all accounts the Laois championship was of poor standard and the score line in the county final would indicate that's not far wrong mintyfresh (Westmeath) - Posts: 211 - 29/11/2021 14:46:58 2391122 Link 0 |
Portarlington are odds-on favourites (with all bookmakers) to win on Sunday. Lots of money after going on St. Martin's (Louth) to win Leinster outright, Kilmacud are still hot favourites though, nobody seems to be touching Lomans at 16/1. I can't understand how they are such long odds. Although you have to factor in how small this betting market is. Stick €100 on Lomans and you'll probably see the odds come in off the back of it. I don't think they'll win it, as Crokes in a semi would be beyond them I think. But I think they'll win this weekend.

Another disappointment in Leinster for Lomans. Thought they could get to a final and possibly win it as Kilmacud look average for Dublin champions. Started bad but that has been their form this year. A titanic battle with Garrycastle should of helped them but not to be. Captainfantastic (Westmeath) - Posts: 44 - 05/12/2021 19:35:28 2391774 Link 0 |
Cracking match in Portlaoise. TG4 could have done worse than showing it. Ultimately an 8 point deficit was too much and while Loman's took the lead it looked like the huge effort needed left them short in the closing ten mins. Shane Dempsey was quiet by his standards but think selectors erred in replacing him. He's always a scoring threat and with John Heslin well marshalled Loman's needed Dempsey on the field. Fola was immense, his best game this year and Sam McCartan and Ronan O' Toole also impressed as did TJ. Surprised that Loman's only used two subs. Young players like Tristan Graham, Chris Gilbert and Conan O' Hara would surely have been worth introducing. Big crowd in attendance and they were treated to a great game. This is not about Senior football but relevant to it. Impressive win for Kinnegad in under 19 final vs Killucan, won by 0-12 to 1-5 and totally dominated second half, completes a very satisfactory year for C-K at adult level, seniors made substantial progress and 19s had a squad containing lots of future seniors. Brian McGrath, Ciaran Daly, Josh Gahan, Podge Quinn, Callum Cruise, Colin Murray and others were superb. Jack Cooney prominent in back room team, Killucan were disappointing. Kinnegad the most likely side to oust Loman's based on this year and youth coming through. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1448 - 18/12/2021 16:59:50 2393174 Link 0 |
Yes great win and alot of the names you mentioned have already played at least one championship season. They have been thrown in at deep end and did very well. Wide open championship in 2022. BigSur (Westmeath) - Posts: 1128 - 18/12/2021 20:09:11 2393211 Link 1 |
What impressed me most about C Kinnegad was the performances of players who didn't feature in senior championship. Brian McGrath, Liam Daly, Podge Quinn and his younger brother, two Cole brothers, Colin Murray, don't think they played Senior this year, McGrath us better known as a Raharney hurler but he was immense at full back, John Keane must have been impressed. Kinnegad also missing Britain Cooney. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1448 - 18/12/2021 21:25:54 2393222 Link 1 |
Great win for CK. There has only been a kick of a ball between CK, Killucan and Lomans at underage all the way up . Killucan beat Lomans in killucan by and injury time free in the group stages ,they beat them well in the semi but Lomans i heard weren't a full strength.Great to see Quinn back playing after missing most of this year with injury.

Not sure about that Chick. Caulry were arguably second best team in under 19, their game versus Coralstown Kinnegad went to extra time. Local papers last week indicated Killucan beat Loman's very easily, 13-14 points at this time of year is a serious trimming. Loman's missing young O' Hora but hardly count that seeing as he's moved to Australia rules. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1448 - 19/12/2021 19:24:08 2393282 Link 0 |
Lomans were without more than O hara. From under 14 up lomans ,Killucan and Kinnegad have dominated .Having said that Caulry have improved significantly over that period ,mostly down to young Bakers ability
