Surely Ciarán McDonald is an inter-county Manager in waiting, but which County will it be? dontlookback (Galway) - Posts: 267 - 29/09/2021 21:37:40 2383591 Link 0 |

Don't know the chap at all but it seems to me an inter county job is the last place he'd want to be. BigSur (Westmeath) - Posts: 1128 - 30/09/2021 10:52:56 2383676 Link 1 |

Nowhere other than Mayo I would say and only in a coaching capacity.

He would have done better at number 11 for Mayo in the All Ireland final than the passenger they had on playing imo. Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 2705 - 30/09/2021 14:27:57 2383754 Link 1 |
Please share the reasons why you're so confident that he will become an inter-county manager?

Maybe he should start by coaching Mayo players to kick points from 30/40 m and hit penalties . If that's been part of his job for the last 2 years then he's failed . Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 02/10/2021 08:55:18 2384092 Link 0 |

Lots of great player related qualities alright. I think you have outlined why he's much admired throughout the Country. Maybe the next step is to make an impact at club or underage as a manager? Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1410 - 02/10/2021 19:34:14 2384187 Link 0 |
I'm afraid that kind of old school thinking went out with the last century, "serving your time" is/was a great way to build up to Senior Inter County Management but none of the under performing Counties give a hoot who you coached as long as you've played to the highest level, Galway being a case in point

Maybe something to reflect on for the under performing Counties. Playing and management are two very different skillsets..

Simple logic says any County that doesn't win either Sam or Liam has underperformed in that code so it's a very wide market for ex players who have little or no management experience in Clubs let alone at County level.
