I agree, Keane had 3 years so he can have no complaints. He's a business man and if gave some1 3 years to do a job and they didn't get the job done I doubt he'd give them another 3 years. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 03/10/2021 15:24:24 2384252 Link 4 |
Ya KingdomBoy I rate him highly too. I'd like to see him centre back for East Kerry in the championship and see how he does.

I think a lot is made of game plans, however when your playing and incidents happen in a split second in a game it the guys on the field that have to perform, and going for goals is a decision made by the player on the field -not by a manager. Missing a goal chance is caused by either a poor shot selection, or by a good save by the opposition keeper, not by a manager. Kerry have a young team and these types of decisions/outcomes can be caused by lack of experience.

I wouldn't like Kerry to do well after jackgate and the way keane was treated. gahfan (Wexford) - Posts: 631 - 03/10/2021 16:15:43 2384265 Link 1 |
I agree to an extent, I rarely pay attention to the tactical aspect of games, I like to watch them unfold, but even I noticed during the semi that the kerry players kept running into brick walls (great tyrone defending too let's not forget), when a point was on, it happened 6 or 7 times. For sure a manager can't kick a ball over the bar for his players, or pass the ball for them etc. but in a situation like that, it's a pretty fundamental issue, his job is to send a message to his players and change things round. Keanes 3 year term ended when we lost to Tyrone, I don't see what the problem is. People seem to forget that Keane didn't contact the players from Fitzmaurices Kerry panel to let them know they were being cut, when asked why didn't he contact the cut players to let them know they wouldn't be in his panel " he said when Fitzmaurices time ended then everyone was cut" so when we lost to Tyrone Keanes time was up, so don't feel bad for Keane. Kildare have been big winners of Jack coming home to Kerry, now they have the man that should have got the job years ago in Glen Ryan, Jack has left them in a good position being in div1. Everyones happy from what I can see. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 03/10/2021 21:49:37 2384316 Link 5 |
Yes alas Peter Keane s tenure did not end with Sam so it's deemed a failure. He did bring 2 league titles (one shared) to Kerry and was a tad unlucky but I'm afraid that's life and a change was needed. Jack did nt treat Kildare properly and unless he delivers an all ireland next year his appointment will be seen as a bad move by county board. Keane s 3 championship losses were a last second goal v Cork in extra time. Losing an all ireland final to Dublin in a replay and again losing by a solitary point to Tyrone in extra time. Close but close does nt wash in Kerry. CiarraiMick (Dublin) - Posts: 3625 - 04/10/2021 08:21:07 2384322 Link 1 |
I think Peter Keane was unlucky not to have the benefit of the backdoor+super 8 format for two of his three years. Last year wouldn't have ended with the Cork defeat and the extra games Kerry would have played would have enabled Keane to evolve his side. Kerry 2021 would have been better adjusted for it even if Sam wasn't won in 2020 (which it might still have been given how close Kerry came in 2019). Galway's PJ for instance has been even worse hit, not even getting one "normal" championship so far to cut his teeth on. Pericles (Mayo) - Posts: 2521 - 04/10/2021 16:31:36 2384396 Link 1 |

Get a better goalkeeper and replace every back bar Tom O'Sullivan and possibly Paul Murphy with players who understand the fundamentals of defending. And realise that football has passed David Moran by as a starting midfielder. FootblockREF (Monaghan) - Posts: 562 - 05/10/2021 08:06:17 2384448 Link 1 |
I see where you're coming from, and nobody likes to drop the axe more than myself but these defenders are the best of what we have in the county AFAIK so like iv often said we have to make the most of what we have and accept that we're going to concede goals and just hope that we can outscore the teams we're playing.
