Nobody is proposing willy nilly calls, or calls just to break up the game. There needs to be very definite issues which it is called in for. And whether or not a player needs to be sent off has to be a call which can be challenged. StoreysTash (Wexford) - Posts: 1732 - 07/07/2021 16:20:15 2357445 Link 0 |

Agree. What I meant by willy nilly calls is by the manager calling for challenge just for the sake of it. If a challenge is wrong there needs to be consequences. For instance if a player obvious to everyone hits an opponents on purpose on top of the head. The manager call it if he likes but further sanction for it and with one challenge he has blown it. They are smart in hockey with this procedure. In principle agree with a challenge but leave it to the GAA to make a mess of it like this new penalty rule. A word of caution though there will be tablets on the bench with everyone reviewing play like hockey. Its a horrible sight I think turning a sport into a computer game.

They lose that challenge, I think I heard that is how it works in NFL? So you start with 2/3, if you are successful you retain it, if you lose you lose it. See if any manager is brave enough to not have one at the end of a match! StoreysTash (Wexford) - Posts: 1732 - 07/07/2021 21:27:17 2357530 Link 0 |
Any system that deters the manager from holding up the game in discriminately. However if there is a subjective call it would be the correct thing to have a defined process way with specific things that can be to reviewed. Sending offs, penalties and disputed scores would probably be it. We have to get away from thinking that the ref is trying to do anyone down but can error like the rest of the participants. James Owens was not trying to do anyone down but did make a wrong call. I got lambasted for saying in my opinion he is the best ref. We all have our preferences. I base my opinion in that he seems to talk to the players more during play. Avoiding many more yellow cards and settles players down. Often a word of caution without all the fanfare works. Like you keep going in like that and you will get a card. May be I am wrong and those who play would say different. There are many times players could speak in support of the ref but don't until they retire or become a pundit. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 2660 - 08/07/2021 15:05:35 2357714 Link 0 |
