The elite controversy was to do with the athletes as opposed to the administrative side of things, and even had you interpreted the narrative correctly, you'd still be wrong as the GAA is one of the most successful and powerful businesses this island has ever produced. No it wasn't, the elite status was designated to the sport/s and then it was removed and that's what the controversy was about, it's all out there in the public domain and common knowledge at this stage.

2021 is not a normal year. Other sports have problems. Look at the Euros, matches played in London and St Petersburg. Quite a distance away. Olympics 2020 only weeks away and still no decision about fans being allowed in, and also still a doubt about the games themselves. The Japs don't seem to want the Olympics. There are billions of dollars at stake too. Plenty of muck ups there too.

Covid or no covid, that was always the plan for the Euros so that's not a problem at all, the only country to lose out is Ireland where I believe Poland's games were scheduled to be played. Already hundreds of thousands of fans have attended games at the Euros. Tokyo will allow ten thousand domestic spectators at venues. But my point isn't about fans or about Covid at all, it's the absolute farce the GAA created regarding league finals taking place or not. We "might" have finals if none of the finalists play in the Championship on the weekend of June 26/27 and if they do play on that weekend but meet in the Championship later on it will double up as a League final. Well Offaly play next weekend but they still played their final v Derry even though that wasn't the Gaa's plan at all, it was agreed between the two counties which made the Gaa look like even bigger fools and a million miles from being described as elite. I'm surprised the GAA allowed Derry and Offaly to use HQ , they must have asked the Dubs for permission first, the tail that wags the dog. "]You're missing the point, again, (I assume you're winding me up, but feck it, I'll bite). The GAA, when seeking elite status, was not in competition with the rest of the world. Whatever about ireland's relationship with the rest of the world businesswise, the GAA is still one of the best run, best organised, money generating businesses in this country, so it should have been given elite status, but it's moot anyway AFAIK as the elite status was to do with the athletes.
