GAA Lockdown

(Oldest Posts First)

Irish soccer at club and international level, Irish Rugby at club and international and Irish cricket internationals are exempt from current lockdown.

Sligo Rovers,Dundalk,St Pats can play.
Yet GAA is in lockdown. I question why only GAA is in lockdown mode.
Are amateurs more sceptical to covid19 than professionals?
Is there stats to confirm above?
I haven't heard however if the stats have been published i humbly apologise.
Elite sports are exempt!!!!!
Oh the Gaelic Athletic association is not like an elite sport.
The GAA don't want to be categorised as elite, they just want to be categorised as equal to other sports.
Superior or Inferior. No
Just equal on a level playing pitch. Forgive the pun.

It's about numbers really.

LoI classified as elite and allowed to play has 20 clubs and all that that entails.

Rugby is only 4 teams plus an international team that is drawn mainly (I think) from those 4 teams.

Allowing Gaelic Games to be run would mean all County teams in football, hurling, Camogie and Ladies Football to go ahead. And that's only inter County, nevermind if club championship was permitted as well.

Soccer and rugby are just miniscule in comparison to Gaelic Games in terms of numbers that it makes sense that they're allowed to continue.

Professionals can restrict movement a bit more than amateurs who still have jobs to attend every day.
The Pro teams are paying for private testing as well to allow players, coaches and ancillary staff to work.

Of course they can get covid as has been shown by some pro rugby players getting covid.
