Very surprised that you haven't named a few American players.

They'd be better than many Galway players. NY would surely have more than 5 senior hurling titles by now, if we'd only been allowed put in a team.

Is that the Immortal, ...oh what's his name...oh yes! The Immortal Tadgh Kennelly, the most representative of all things Kerry football?

If ye didn't run away to America in the first place you wouldn't have to worry about putting in a team.

If ye had provided jobs for them, they wouldn't have 'run away'.

I started following the games closely in the lates 70s/early 80s. Here are some players who made a big impression on me at the time: Gaillimh_Abu (Galway) - Posts: 996 - 12/12/2020 20:10:11 2321686 Link 0 |

The USA wasn't the only place that Limerick ppl ran to. After the Siege, some were forced west of the Shannon to places like Galway with Cromwell's infamous decree, "to hell or to Connaught". Sure there wasn't an ash tree, lest lone a hurler in the place before that. So, girleen, the roots of Galway hurling can be traced to Limerick. But you know that already, and that's why we all know that you'll shouting vociferously for the boys in green today. I myself, will be supporting the blaas. Enjoy the day, girl. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 1910 - 13/12/2020 03:45:59 2321758 Link 1 |
Hurling(not that I even know any Tyrone lads, sorry): Dj Carey ( for me the greatest to grace the game), Shefflin and Galway's Joe canning. He finally got what he deserved back in 2018. GameofTyronesIsBackhere (Tyrone) - Posts: 46 - 13/12/2020 07:01:12 2321766 Link 0 |
There was no one better than DJ. Got to met him when I was 10 years old playing hurling for my club at the time and seen him hand pass a sliotar over the bar from the half way line I am not even joking. I am still amazed to this day how on earth a human without a 10 foot catapult can do that. For that alone he is the best

Obviously not much was thought of LK when one couldn't wait to fly or run away when the going got tough. But now it's like a desperate cry for attention to feel connected to where one came from. DJ was a great man for the Handball which probably helped with that. Hard to believe though from the halfway line. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 13/12/2020 09:38:23 2321788 Link 0 |
