My 3 top picks for Footballer of the year in this order.

1. Andy Moran (no need to explain)
2. Tom Parsons (because it makes me feel warm inside)
3. James Nallen

Sure how could anyone argue with the logic of these three :)

When push came to shove against Mayo he kicked wide after wide. So enough crap apart him doing this and that re-watch the game and look how gready he was shooting terrible wides. If he passed the ball now and again Donegal may have reached a Semi final"
Led his team to a provincial title.... the teams won the provinces, not single player so that's a narrow argument.

He was the best player on the pitch in 4/5 of the 6 games he played this year. That's hardly carp unless you didn't watch the games in which case you wouldn't know.

You keep on about the Mayo game, he was so influential even though he hit a few wides. Maybe you should have watched all the other games he played in except the only one you watched

Haha, one of the most silly posts I have ever read about Murphy. One of the traits that makes Murphy such a great player is how unselfish he is. He will always pass to a player in a better position (assuming he sees him and he usually does) no matter who it is and doesn't have an ego and shoot from ridiculous angles like some forwards do, Conor Cox included. I remember watching the international rules match that was played in Brefni park a few years back and the Australian pundits could not believe how much of a team player Murphy was. They were so impressed at how he didn't care who scored as long as his team did. That's the way he has always played for his club Glenswilly and Donegal all his career and to be honest sometimes I wish he was more selfish but he's just the ultimate team player.

The truth of the matter is he kicked some wides against Mayo that on another day could of went over and it was the right option for him to shoot when he did but conditions were awful and both teams missed chances on the night. He was directly involved in 1-8 from the 1-10 Donegal scored and any Mayo supporter I spoke to afterwards were full of praise of him and were delighted that Murphy didn't get too much help from his teammates on the day.

Murphy does not deserve to be in the conversation for POTY because Donegal did not get beyond the super 8's. That said it was probably his most impressive season in a Donegal jersey and I think a big factor in this was that he manged to stay injury free for the year after coming back for the latter stages of the league. You said he had a good game v Kerry? If that was a good game what do you consider a great game? 1-7 from midfield!! He was outstanding v Tyrone and ran the show v Cavan and Meath in more withdrawn roles. He was still Donegal's best player by far v Mayo and ended the game with 1-4. He has always been a brilliant No.14 and No.11 but he has now developed in to one of the best midfielders in the game and is why he is considered by most to be the best all round player in the game over the last decade. Donegal people will have a national day of mourning when the day comes that he decides to retire. Hopefully thats 4 or 5 years away yet.

t the moment Patrick Durcan is the POTY ,he completely destroyed Ryan McHugh in the game in Castlebar and at that stage McHugh was the outstanding player, but I am sure who ever has a big game in final will get POTY

I expect Kerry and Dublin will make up the majority or the forward positions 5/6 and if anyone from another team sneaks in it most definitely will be McShane and deservely so, He led his team to an All Ireland semi and is top scorer in this years championship."
Think McShane will get an All Star alright

So far on form of the last two teams left, it's between Stephen O Brien and Con O Callaghan for me and performance on Sunday will be the tick box. Has a player from the semi finals ever won Footballer of the Year? Not in recent times anyway.

Bernard Brogan won it in 2010. He was sensational that year.

Every county loves to see Murphy out midfield away from the goal, does ok but nothing special when he's in near goal he's lethal no doubt."
I would of agreed with this statement if it was 2 or 3 years old. Murphy has improved a lot as a player when playing around the middle third in the last few years. Fenton is obviously the best midfielder in the game but I don't think anyone else in the country bar Fenton is better than Murphy in that sector over the last 2 years. His performance v Tyrone this year was the most dominating midfield display seen this year when he won well into double figure kickouts on the day. Have you watched much of Donegal in the last 2 years CD? Or are you still basing your opinion on Murphy and Donegal when Rory G was in charge?

Agree that Stephen O'Brien is Kerry's best chance of landing the award. It's not as clear with Dublin as Con, Fenton, Mannion and McCaffrey all have a chance and whoever plays best in the final will probably get the award.
