Kildare V Longford

(Oldest Posts First)

Is this where this weekend's shock is coming from? Kildare were far from convincing against Wicklow and Longford sure know how to pull off a championship upset like Meath (2018), Down away, Monaghan away (both 2016).

I think Kildare will win but if we don't, I'm not sure why you think it would be classified as a shock. We were poor in the league & poor v Wicklow. There is no doubt Longford could win this one.

Longford also knocked out Derry three times in the qualifers.

They troubled Cork and Donegal in recent years too. They are a hard nut to crack.

Maybe not a shock but a surprise nonetheless. Similar to Meath last year when I remember many people tipping them to win.

I think Longford have been strong at underage lately and never pushovers at minor or u21 and I for one wasn't majorly shocked at them putting it up to or beating higher ranked teams, however, If Kildare cut down on half the bad wides from Wicklow and take aggression into the tackle further up the field they should win with points to spare. This considers Longford's loss of big players since last year that seems to have gone unmentioned.

I think we'll see a much better performance from Kildare. These guys have put a lot of work in and won't want to lose so early in the championship. Team selection is crucial though. Neil Flynn and Moolick should start and Conway back to forwards at the expense of Paddy Brophy. Have a feeling O'Neill will drop Jimmy though. Think we'll win but we need to win well to get a bit of confidence for Dublin game.

Jimmy dropped. At least when he's playing we get a couple of scores off him with frees earned. Time for Paddy to show us why he is an automatic starter.

Longford have even more lads who aren't bothered committing to the county than we have. Kildare will probably fall over the line. Not that it matters.

To be honest I'd rather loose this than wait for the Dubs to run up another record score on us the next day.

Should be 2 good competitive games in Tullamore today, it's very hard to call Laois v Westmeath but Kildare should just have the edge over Longford.

That being said Longford are probably one of the best team's in Ireland at causing an upset and Kildare could easily be caught out today.

Pity about the prize on offer for the winner though!

Absolute disgrace that this game wasn't shown on tv

Just imagine you're a Kildare of Longford player tonight!!

You run yourself into the ground, you play 90+ minutes, it ends a draw and you've to go to the well again next sunday.

The reward for the winner ? A trip to croker to play Dublin, going for 5 all Irelands on the trot, a team who won by 26 yesterday, going for 9 leinsters in a row, with a double digit average of winning margains in that time, with most of your best players opting off the panel.

The losers ? Well, theyre back out in the quallies.

Why would you bother at all ?

seriously. Why would you bother ?

Any chance either of these teams had of keeping Dublin relatively close is gone now because the winner will have a 7 day turn around after a gruelling 90 mins today, 70 next week, and are coming up against probably the strongest squad of players, strolling into this fresh as spring morning.

Why not just take penaltys or something this afternoon and give the winners the 13 days to rest up, recover etc

Mad

Given the standard on offer today Comedy Central might bid for the rights to the replay.

To be honest with you Waynol I agree with you. Neither team are anywhere near Dublin's standard but i question how many teams are. Dublin could beat about 27 or 28 teams in the country without having to think too much about it. As for Kildare, oh dear!!

Royaldunne hope ya had a good 12 months. Things seem to be more settled in meath than they were. Anyway, great game yesterday v kildare. Some fantastic scores in it, with both teams players knackered at the end. Pity nobody will see it as nobody was playing dublin or kerry, but anyhow!!

Imagine a second tiered championship, youd definitely never see longford or the equivalent on telly again.

Id say the game yesterday was probably more satisfying from a longford point of view, as we had 8/9 players missing from team that played ye last yr we had 2 retirements, but 7 first teamers that werent available for various reasons. One was actually working outside the stadium. In fairness davis has done a satisfactory job with what was available to him. I believe, to be fair, kildare are in a similar boat re players missing.

Congrats on yer promotion and ye have a great chance of leinster final again.
