Derry champions Steelstown are out of the Ulster ladies intermediate club championship after failing to fulfil last Wednesday’s semi-final against Castlerahan/Denn.

The Brian Ogs had been scheduled to play their Cavan counterparts at St Aidan’s Park, Bawnboy three days ago but the match venue was switched to Kingspan Breffni’s 3G pitch as a result of heavy rain.

The change was at short notice, so much to the point that Steelstown claim that their team bus had to turnaround on their original route to Cavan as the players did not have the correct footwear with them for a 3G surface and were concerned about the risks of playing on it with metal studs.

In a statement issued yesterday, Ulster LGFA said that delegates voted unanimously on Thursday night to award the fixture to Castlerahan/Denn.

It’s now understood that Steelstown are considering lodging an appeal ahead of tomorrow’s Ulster final between Castlerahan/Denn and Fermanagh champions Derrygonnelly at Healy Park, Omagh (3pm).
