Donal Burke admitted that Dublin were eager to avenge last year's shock All-Ireland SHC preliminary quarter-final defeat to Laois in last night's Leinster SHC opener.

The Na Fianna sharpshooter scored 1-16 in the Dubs' 3-21 to 0-23 victory at an empty Croke Park after missing last year's campaign and told Sky Sports afterwards: “We came out with that in the back of our minds.

“We wanted a bit of revenge for last year. We didn’t do ourselves justice. But from tomorrow we’ll get our heads right for next week.”

Dublin manager Mattie Kenny was full of praise for Burke as he turned his thoughts to next weekend's Leinster SHC semi-final against Kilkenny.

“Donal has been a great player since he was 16, 17. He played really well for Dublin minors and U21s,” the Galway man noted.

“He was always a great talent coming through and we in Dublin were delighted this evening to see him doing it out there at senior level. He’s a very, very skilful player, a great striker of the ball and in fairness to the young lad he got some lovely scores there tonight. ”
