Down's joint-ladies football managers Caoibhe Sloan and Peter Lynch have stepped down in the wake of Saturday's All-Ireland intermediate championship quarter-final defeat to Wexford.

The duo, who had been at the helm since November 2018, have cited family and work commitments as their reason for vacating the post.

"Caoibhe and Peter have brought a great energy to the county squad, their input has been greatly appreciated and we intend to continue building for the future on the sound foundations they have laid. The County Board thank them for all their hard work over the last few years and wish them every success for the future," Down LGFA said in a statement.

"The process of appointing new management will begin immediately."
