Declan Bonner is set for another term as Donegal senior football manager.

Bonner has been granted a two-year extension, until the end of 2023, after the county's executive committee tonight gave the Na Rossa man the green light to continue in the role.

He has served the past four years as manager and took charge of the Tir Chonaill men previously from 1997 until 2000.

Donegal GAA last week confirmed that the position was open to nominations until August 29 (yesterday) but no other candidates were put forward by the clubs.

Donegal retained their Division 1 status this season before losing out in the Ulster SFC semi-final to eventual champions and current All-Ireland finalists Tyrone by six points.

The county board said in a statement: "At last Wednesday’s County Committee meeting Declan Bonner presented his report on the 2021 Allianz League Division 1 campaign and the Ulster Championship and announced that he was interested in another term as Senior Donegal County manager.

"Chairman Mick McGrath noted that as Declan’s term was over the position was also open to other candidates and invited clubs to nominate candidates by 5pm on Sunday evening.

"As of the deadline on Sunday evening no club had nominated another candidate and this evening the County Executive recommended Declan for a second two year term to County Committee who approved this decision."
