The 2020 Donegal senior football championship final between Naomh Conaill and Kilcar is set to be replayed.

The Donegal Competitions Controls Committee (CCC) confirmed tonight that they found Naomh Conaill, who won the game on 4-2 penalties two weeks’ ago, were in breach of rules.

The Glenties club used four substitutes in extra time at Sean MacCumhaill Park, with only a maximum of three being permitted over the two extra 10-minute periods under GAA rules.

After considering Kilcar’s objection, the Donegal CCC has now ordered the match to be replayed - presumably next weekend as the 2021 Donegal SFC is scheduled to get underway on the weekend of September 11/12.

The original fixture had been postponed three times in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

An official statement released tonight read as follows:

"A number of CCC officials met both CLG Chill Chartha and CLG Naomh Conaill last Thursday evening on foot of the Kilcar’s objection to awarding 2020 Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure Senior Championship title to Naomh Conaill.

“Their decision to replay the fixtures was explained to a full CCC meeting this evening, Sunday August 29th. The notice (below) has now been sent to both clubs and at this stage the CCC are not making any further comment as this decision may be appealed to a higher authority.”
