Suspension of Playing Activity

With Donegal having been placed under Level 3 Restrictions over the weekend, Gaeil Fhánada have taken the decision to suspend all playing activity for the foreseeable future.

We encourage all our members to continue following public health advice so that the county, and country as a whole, can get back to a safe place.

Any updates to our stance will be in line with the latest advice available from our health representatives. We would like to acknowledge and thank everyone for their cooperation.

Gaeil Fhánada Le Chéile - Cash Draw

Well done to Jack Coyle and Neal Mc Groarty who were the luck winners in the second of our Gaeil Fhánada Le Chéile cash draws. They both won €300 each.

We we like to acknowledge and once again thank the Le Chéile members for their continued and invaluable support.

Mark Dorrian to referee Senior County Final

Next Wednesday evening will provide another first in the history of Gaeil Fhánada,  when Mark Dorrian will become the first club referee to take charge of the senior county final between Naomh Conaill and Kilcar.

The game was due originally due to take place on Sunday last has been rescheduled for October 7th. It continues a great for our whistlers after Siobhan Coyle took charge of the Intermediate final last weekend. Incidentally last years intermediate showdown saw Mark in the middle and he counts that as one of his biggest achievements to date, along with a trip to Boston in 2018 to officiate at the CYC Championships.

It’s a huge achievement for Mark who has been on the refereeing circuit for ten years now, and it’s a massive honour for Gaeil Fhánada to see him representing the club on County Final day.

Ádh mór ort Mark, go n-éirí go geal leat!

Intermediate Final for Siobhan Coyle

Siobhan Coyle made history on Saturday past as she became the first female referee to take charge of this game, which is one of the showpiece events in the Donegal GAA calendar, where Aodh Ruadh ultimately defeated Cloich Cheann Fhaola to lift the title.

For those of us who’ve followed Siobhan’s fortunes in recent times, it came as little surprise to us to see her awarded with such a high profile game, as her track record in recent years is very impressive.

Siobhan, a primary school teacher from Baile Thiarnáin has already given nine years of service on the refereeing circuit. She took up refereeing back at a time when a the call from the club came looking for new recruits. She decided to do the course to see how it went, and she hasn’t looked back since.

Big occasions have presented themselves in the past number of years including the senior ladies county final some weeks back. She refereed the All Ireland Junior Ladies club final last year, while she was linesperson in the All Ireland Senior Ladies finals in 2017 and 2019. Opportunities to travel abroad have also come Siobhan’s way, as she travelled to Buffalo in New York in 2017 to referee in the CYC’s, and then to Kuala Lumpur last year to officiate at the Asian Games.

Very well done to Siobhan and her team of officials, which included club umpires JP Coyle, Declan Coyle, Hughie Shiels and John Cushnan on a very competent performance on Saturday.

Comhghairdeas uainn uilig sa chlub.

Welcome Sophie and Éabha

We would like to extend our congratulations to senior player Mylie Mc Bride and his partner Niamh on the arrival of their baby girl Sophie last week.

Congratulations also to club referee,  committee member and former player, Brendan Callaghan and his wife Maria on the birth of their daughter Éabha back in August.

Comhghairdeas libh go léir uainn uilig sa chlub!
