Glen retained their Derry senior football championship crown this afternoon after powering past Slaughtneil with a 1-12 to 0-7 victory at Celtic Park.
Corner-back Cathal Mulholland struck the game’s only goal as Malachy O’Rourke’s men cruised to victory in the end, landing their second ever title in the process.
The victors raced out of the traps and had six different scorers before Slaughtneil registered their first point in the 20th minute via a Shane McGuigan free.
It saw the holders eventually go in with a 0-7 to 0-2 half-time lead and points from Emmet Bradley (free) and Michael Warnock pushed the lead to seven early in the restart.
Jerome McGuigan, Christopher Bradley and Shane McGuigan pulled back points for the 2020 champions but any hope of a late revival for the trailers was killed off by Mulholland poking to the net from Emmet Bradley’s high ball into the square.
