Poor planning on FIFA's part.

Not a problem in my view. It is the hurling club semis, not the finals. And Ireland are not in it.

I don't think having massive club games clashing with realistically the biggest sporting event on the planet is a smart move, I'll watch the hurling myself and keep an eye on the soccer but attendance and TV numbers will definitely be effected.

Dont follow soccer so dont really care about it (unless it went to penalities, id tune in then) but i do see how its not ideal fixing at same time. My only real gripe is alot of neutrals would tune in for the ballyhale/gunner game. Why fix this game for 3pm when it could be played as the 130 game and people at home can watch this and WC Final. no disrespect to Thomass/dunloy but surely this would soften the cough of some giving out!

I was being facetious. Tone of reports is that GAA is somehow at fault. Date was fixed long time ago, Same comes up every time something that coach potatoes are interested in. No other sport rearranges big days - which the semi finals are - just because some people want to watch something else on telly.

Have it on Christmas Day maybe :-)

It was set for that weekend, not specifically the Sunday, I understand with the wedding of a St Thomas player on the Saturday that's out for that game but a double header wasn't a necessity. Surely something like Dunloy/Thomas at 1 or 1.30 on the Sunday in Parnell Park, Clones, Breffni Park etc. and Ballygunner/Ballyhale somewhere like Portlaoise on the Saturday was feasible.

Once they moved the final from Croke Park to Qatar I lost all faith in them.

I reckon the sort of people complaining about this on other forums and social media, about "stupid move by the GAA", are not really GAA people at all.

For real supporters of both clubs, a semi-final in Croke Park would be a far greater priority than a soccer match on the telly. You might lose a few neutrals from the crowd and a few couch potatoes who choose to watch the soccer instead all right, but neither would make a massive difference.

Can say now with 100% certainty I'll be watching the hurling myself.

To be fair I think a big part of the criticism regards the Ballygunner/ Ballyhale game is there's actually an alternative there in a Saturday fixture, in fairness on the other game 1 hand is tied behind the back, i just presumed somebody would surely have the foresight to avoid the clash.

Could be one of the all time great games. Whether its Messi v Ronaldo, Mbappe v Van Dijk or the great Harry Maguire v Neymar....I'll still be tuning into to see Dessie and TJ and the rest. Could be one of the all time classics. I'll watch the WC after.

The Galway vs Kerry Super 8 match in 2018 clashed with that year's World Cup final. I couldn't have cared less at the time. Our first win over Kerry in the championship since 60s was all that mattered for me, even if the game itself was a poor enough spectacle.

People really need to quit with "real supporters".
"real" supporters of club as well as others involved should be able to watch both and by clashing with it you can lose out on neutrals who may go to the game but wont because of clash with world cup

This is the biggest sport in the world played all over the world . There will be 95% of the TV's on that day with the world cup, 4 % watching something else and maybe .5% / 1% watching the hurling and anyone who thinks otherwise has their head buried.

The WC has been brilliant, its been fun, exciting, everyone loves watching Brazil and the likes with there dancing, The Hurling match will be payed in almost empty stadium, in the mid of winter and the player and managers all on media bans, the whole fun has been removed.

I think i will still watch the hurling. And i am not near as fond of hurling as i am Gaelic football. Both codes are way superior to soccer, in my opinion

Most of country is not even watching it! Check the viewing figures. "Everyone" loves soap operas and love islands too. Should GAA design its schedule around expulsions form reality TV shows?

You prefer soccer to hurling. Knock yourself out as they say :-)

How many, if any, neutrals were going to go to Croke Park for Club hurling in December but now won't because the Soccer Final is on TV?

You mustn't have been great at maths, your percentages are a bit off the wall. - Not everyone likes watching Brazil's rain dance, etc.

The hurling semis could and should have been rescheduled to keep everyone happy, unfortunately that didn't happen because of a little thing called stubbornness.

Because soccer may be the biggest sport in the world does not mean it is the best or most enjoyable sport in the world, again it's all about opinion.

Feel free to dance on Mo Cara.

Few I would think.

TV stations do not close down all their other channels when something more popular is on somewhere else!

Hundreds of thousands of people are watching other things or doing better things like reading or playing music or walking their dogs or sleeping while the World Cup is on.

As someone said above, a lot of the criticism of GAA for this is from people who hate GAA, let's be honest about it. I have minimal interest in catering any more to these people than we already have done.

I'm repeating myself here but putting probably the most anticipated club game of the year in either code on the same time as the biggest sporting event on the planet when you don't have too is a bit daft no matter what way you dress it up.
