Replying To MachaireConnacht:  "Very true, the teams left in the championship will be a huge jump up from Cork. Goes to show as well, league form as meant little or nothing in this championship for a lot of teams."
Cork only got this far in the championship as they beat the two promoted division 3 teams.

Replying To The_analyser:  "Did what they expected to do today, Cork haven't the fitness to keep any defensive set up going for more than a half of football and lets not forget Cork avoided the B All Ireland by the skin of their teeth and i'd fancy both Westmeath and Cavan to beat them."
Yep. The 2 one sided games today again highlighted the problem with rewarding those who focus on league.
Maybe reward Division 1 and top 2 division 2 only. There isn't enough of a distinction between teams when you go any lower.

True and then some want a 3rd tier.

In the last 8 you are always going to get 2/3 make weights who end up getting thumped…. It happens almost every year no matter what way you set up the Championship… At the end of the day it's the usual 3/4 teams who make the semifinals… Kerry/Dublin /Mayo there most years unless they clash earlier like this year….

now to be clear i walked out at around 40 mins in dublin v cork but i feel like cork shoulda had some more frees and dublin coulda had a few more cards at that stage of the game
i dont understand where wrapping both arms around somebody and physically holding them back isnt a free anymore but i jersey tug is
also thought dublin looked very very beatable upto that point and a better team will ask serious questions of them
so if armagh beat galeay today does that mean armagh play derry ?
the whole year has just been a massive ulster championship for ulster teams who seem to draw each other time and again

The dubs will be up against it playing kerry next weekend. No Callaghan or McCarthy. Could be big win.

Replying To howdareu:  "Listening to Dublin game on radio. Who is analysing the game? He's very poor. Offers nothing insightful at all. Just stating the obvious, eg that was a great block, its a five point lead etc etc. Its very poor analysis."
Analysis by the guy who labelled Gooch a 'two trick pony' on The Sunday Game.

And because the stayed in Division 2 when early league form pointed towards relegation.

Replying To Ronan1989:  "The only way to beat Derry is do what Donegal did.

I would fully expect them to beat Dublin/Kerry/Armagh/Mayo etc.

They have already beaten 3 division 1 teams to get to this match.

They have to win 2 more matches, the semi will be against the Galway/Armagh who are both very beatable.

Then Dublin/Kerry in the final. I have watched all of Derry's championship matches and they have the hunger which Donegal had in 2012 and the fitness too."
Their progress this year has been very impressive. However a Donegal team playing with the handbrake on drew with them in normal time in the Ulster final. Donegal didn't press up on their restarts which is a possible weakness and in turn they presented Derry with some easy scores by messing up a short kick out ,conceeding a few soft frees and playing two of their best forwards (Murphy, McHugh) in the half back line. On the other hand I feel Derry are improving with every outing this year.

It's in two weeks and Kerry - if they beat Mayo which is by no means a given - will be favourites with or without James and Callaghan.

I thought the most worrying thing from Dublin perspective is that Cork backs pretty much nullified the sort of goal threat they'd shown in the other games. No harm to him, but Paddy Small just does not fit in with a team whose gameplan is to move the ball quickly into the danger zone. His instinct is always to take a mark or otherwise hold play up.

Yah Derry are on the up. They look fresh, sharp and like they are enjoying their football. It is their style and has no baggage attached to it. Every time they break up the field, you get the feeling that there is a potential goal on. Clare never had a hope against Derry, so it isn't possible to judge much from that game. But yes, their kick outs are a potential issue. Monaghan showed this when they pressed up on it. I fancy Derry to get to the final regardless of the opposition in the semis.

Replying To Donegal_abroad:  "Completely agree. Sky analysts are miles ahead in footballing knowledge and detailed scrutiny compared to the tired soundbites on RTE. Do RTE ever actually look at Sky pundits and their approach and consider replicating it for a second? The Sunday Game offering is often tired and cliched."
No competition so no incentive to improve. Sky are behind a paywall so that will naturally turn some people off but a Now TV day pass costs 12 euro. You'd need another free to air channel like Virgin to take on some games.

Why are the cameras so far away from the action? You would nearly want binoculars to see the game on rte.

Dub/Kerry are not that far ahead of Galway/Derry.

I think it's a great chance for both Galway and Derry to win Sam this year.

Could see Galway or Derry giving Kerry good run after the weekends games but couldn't see either beating the Dubs.

Ahh my old friend, surely after seeing Kerry this weekend you have to believe that should con and McCarthy get back that Dublin will win ?
