Can We Bring Back The Red Thumbs To The Forum.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The 2 sites I read the most comments from, both have a downvote function. Reddit and Youtube. I think it has value on a video sharing site to help rate user content and both these sites have an enormous user base. Posts can have many thousands of votes in short time.

Probably not needed for Hoganstand and I'm not really bothered, but if they bring it back I'll use it, just as I do the green one.

Killing fields, in all fairness don't we all here hide behind our anonymity.

Debate things KillingFields? I asked you for specific figures in relation to the number of professional players on the Irish womens rugby team. I did do because I felt you needed to substantiate your claim that the panel was a predominantly professional panel of players. I'm still waiting for those figures. I disagree with what you have to say about thumbs. People are as quick to click the green thumbs and move on as they are to click the red thumbs and move on.

The 7s players are professional though considering pandemic has stopped their 7s actually being played who knows situation theyre in right now. a large proportion are pros. i dont have specific numbers but if care enough im sure @irishrugby on twitter will answer your query.

red thumbs are very different to green ones. red are used very maliciously by some on this site, and every site theyre in operation

I agree with African Gael,if one has something to say,say it. Don't just use the thumbs down as an opportunity to denigrate a post.

Giving a thumbs up is also not expressing an opinion. Likewise, you could say "if someone feels strongly enough to give a thumbs [up] then I think they should get off the ditch and have their say, instead of hiding behind childish emojis"

I think you should either have both thumbs (green and red) or none.

I always took pleasure in knowing one or two posters had to log in and out of multiple accounts to red thumb me. I enjoyed it so so much, hasn't been the same since it went. If they are to return I'm all for it, however have a drop down to see who red thumbed, in other words have courage of ur convictions. I'll frequently disagree with people, but I add my disagreement not hide behind a red thumb.
As I said I am the most red thumbed poster on hs. No one can take that away from me"
You probably got the most red thumbs because you have posted over 17 thousand comments. Who had the most red thumbs per comment would a better measure of unpopularity.

I think if the site were removing red thumbs they should have got rid of green thumbs too, have both or neither. It's a fair point people use red thumbs just to throw a f*** you at someone but I agree with Royaldunne have a drop-down and you can see who is giving a red thumb nobody can hide then.

I said to you that the sevens players were professional. They only make up a small proportion of the squad. I think you're overstating it when you say red thumbs are used "very maliciously."

It's fine to move on after giving a green thumb because one has no issue with the post and nothing further needs to be added whereas if one gives a red thumb then it indicates someone has either an issue with the post or there is malicious intent. You wouldn't go to your boss and say I have issues with my contract of employment and walk out the door without spelling out what your issues were. So there is a huge difference.

And what happens when someone agrees with the majority of a post but may have an issue with one part of it ?

What I mean by "hiding behind emojis" is giving a thumbs down without actually spelling out what you don't agree with, so it wouldn't make any difference whether their username was visible or not.

If you are bothered to that extent by a red thumb you should probably stay away from social media / forums as it's highly likely that there are far more potent ways to insult or be malicious than applying a symbol to a posters comment.

His opinions on the 6 counties, the Troubles, bigotry and discrimination that GAA people had to endure up here won't have won him many green thumbs. Some people get what they ask for on here.

This is an anonymous forum so it's hardly worth taking any of the likes or dislikes ( were they an option ) in any way seriously. Equally, it is kind of ridiculous that posters can and have more than one anonymous username.

Trying to manage and evaluate the green and red thumbs here is like trying to get in touch with the rules, regulator and editor of the Political Correctness booklet. The post with a green thumb may not be the post that I might give a green thumb to, likewise the post with a red thumb may get a green thumb from me, so it's all about opinion, nothing insensitive or set in stone about opinions as we are all entitled to our opinion. Here on hs we tend to color code our opinion with the use of red and green "thumbs", it could have brought the thumbs a step closer to "PC" in using two green thumbs one with the thumb pointing up, as in favor, and the other green thumb pointing down, as not in favor, so it's the thumb only that points the way, not the color, however red and green is more pronounced so I'll settle for that.

I think you'll find the opposite is true actually, people are absolutely not entitled to publish every opinion they have without the risk of repercussions. I wouldn't have any thumbs at all, but I guess they suit either very vain or malicious people.

You've got an axe to grind with him, which has nothing to do with red or green thumbs. He, or you, are perfectly entitled to give your opinions on the 6 counties or what ever, but that is irrelevant to the topic at hand.
