Limerick against Waterford. All Ireland Hurling Final 2020

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Probably time enough to start a thread on this.

An unlikely pairing during a strange year and potentially a great game..

Waterford were brilliant dismantling Kilkenny in the second half of their semi final.
Reminded me a lot of their breakthrough back in the 2002 Munster final when they blitzed the then all Ireland champions Tipperary.

Waterford are playing with serious belief and with a style of hurling that's a pleasure to watch.

Limerick on the other hand are stuttering a bit.. struggled to put Galway away when we had the chances. Also fairly goal shy, which is a concern.

All that said limerick have answered every question asked of them so far and will probably be favourites heading into the final.
As a Limerick man I'm hopeful we'll click on Dec 13th and win our second all Ireland in 3 years. As a hurling man I'd love to see Waterford win the all Ireland, just not against us!
Wondering what the rest of ye think?

Just hope the Waterford lads watch their "Backs"
Only one winner here, Waterford all the way.

Limerick were always favoured to reach the final. Since they won it 2 years ago they've won 2 National Leagues & 2 Munster titles. Waterford were a bit of a surprise package but they're gonna be full of confidence for the final now. As the Deise discovered in 2007 against Limerick, it can be hard to beat the opposition twice in championship. The losers usually learn more than the victors. Should be a great contest.

There there now. Maybe you should look forward in hope, not back in anger. If we cannot beat Waterford that is fine. We will take our beating with dignity and wish that fine Deise team well. It is great to see two Munster teams in the Final. If Waterford win, and good luck to them if they do, they will be the fifth county from this Province to win the All Ireland in sixteen years and the cup will repose in the Munster Plains - well it will anyway- for the 74th time. LET US MAKE MUNSTER GREAT AGAIN. But really what is the point- it has always been great.

Hard to see Limerick losing but Waterford will give them a hard go of it. Limerick by 2 points.

The Examiner is reporting that Fergal Horgan will referee the final. I don't think Waterford will be impressed by this appointment, even if Brian Gavin thought Horgan did an excellent job on their semi-final.

Limerick will be the first to congratulate Waterford if they win. We son't b e sore losers.
If you are still looking for a feel good Kick or retroactive tractive revenge take a look at Joe Connolly 's 2 "tackles" on Liam O'Donohue in 1980 AI - you tube... The "intent" was much more crystal clear.
Coincidentally it just came across my radar last night.

Don't be offended if we don't indulge any further ... we in Limerick are enthusiatically preparing for our 2nd All-Ireland appearance in 3 years and we refuse to indulge in self pity that we are not going for 3 in a row. Like it says in the hymn.. ."Sing and the hills will answer...sigh and its lost in the air.'

See ya in the Spring...

Limerick have been by far the best team in the Country over the last 3 years. If Kilkenny hadn't pulled out a performance of a lifetime in last years semi-final, Limerick would now be going for 3 in a row.
They are a class team and nothing seems to phase them. Waterford will make it a good contest but similar to the Munster Final, Limerick will have enough to be crowned Champions.

Really looking forward to this game, hopefully will be a hard hitting game of hurling and doesn't get ruined by an injury or a silly red card. Limerick are naturally favourites to win but Waterford have noting to lose and wont be there just to make up the numbers. Looking forward to the match ups Lyons on Hegarty, Barron on O' Donoghue, Fagan on Hayes or Byrnes and Aussie on Morrisey.
In a **** year thank god for the hurling championship. Hope fully Waterford can get a long over due title and banish the demons of 2008 & 2017

Liam Cahill and his Waterford charges are relishing a second go at Limerick. They will need 70mins hurling not 35 mins. I think which ever bench has the most impact will decide. Limerick have been the form team all year but I wouldn't begrudge Waterford Liam McCarthy either. Looking forward to it.

While I like reading statements like this as it annoys Tipp people, some of the stuff written about Limerick is dubious at best. Limerick lost 3 championship matches last year, failed to even reach the final. What other team would be given such a benefit of the doubt based on a single previous all ireland win?

Would like to bet too much on that. I was very impressed with Waterford v Kilkenny. A lot will depend on referee also. Limerick were marginally the better team v Galway but I thought the ref let them away with a lot. On saying that the Galway goalie picked 5 balls out to a limerick man and two over sideline. This is not sour grapes or anything (limerick deserved to beat Galway) but it would be brilliant for hurling to see Waterford win.

Have to agree with you. It makes me nervous this whole Limerick are unbeatable notion, cos we're not.
I think a lot it is based on how dominant we've been against Tipp the last few years.

Waterford gave us a really good game a few weeks ago and look to have improved since then while we're still a bit.. not firing properly. I think that there's a really big performance in Limerick and hopefully they'll bring it on the 13th, otherwise we'll lose.

Katser is that you...finally raised your head approve the parapet after the weekend. Commiserations. You must be devastated. I ll tell you what Galway surprised me by hanging in there for so long. Just didn't have enough ultimately. If Limerick win the All Ireland this year you ll have to come down to Limerick post covid...lol

Your post suggests that your begrudgery that you ar more annoyed than of the Tipp people combined....
All dynasties come to and end ..just ask Donald Trump or Brian Cody...get over it and get on with ...Look at the bright side....Santa coming soon.. New Year just around the corner.. OOOOOMMMM!

PS and if your hindsight is still skewed . Limerick had to win 9 games to win All-Ireland in 2018 ......how many All-Irelands did Kilkenny win after playing just 4 games... ask Mr.Jackie T AKA Mr. Littlewoods.

PSS ... and let me tell you something else.. Limerick would probably e prefer to meet KK than Waterford.

Pat, in 2018 we played 7 games.
4 in Munster, lost 1, drew 1 won 2.
After that we beat Carlow, Cork and Galway. So we won 5 games from 7. Still very impressive but if you're going to go on the attack get your facts right first.

And to be honest, no where in the kilkenny posters comment was there any begrudgery. He was right.
We've a fantastic team at the moment.. Brought great joy to a lot of success starved Supporters but this whole thing about Limerick dominating hurling is a bit daft at the moment.

Many people like yourself are now backing Waterford to win, even the top pundits like Brendan Cummins are going for a
Waterford win. Early in the championship people were saying it was going to be Limericks All-Ireland but that sentiment
has changed, after their performance against Waterford and Galway. I think that will take the pressure off Limerick.
If Limerick are to win they will need to select their best team. At least they now know they will have to be totally focussed
after their recent narrow wins.
