NorthMeathman, glad to see that at last you manage to agree with me on something. However I don't necessarily disagree with the sentiments he expressed in the article. Just the way he gives voice to them. Also, and more importantly in my view, no Meath man/woman, worth their salt would wash the dirty linen in public in this way and certainly not in a national newspaper. You wouldn't see that happen in any of the better organise counties. When things are going wrong that's the time to close ranks and pull together for the greater good of club and county. Hayes didn't say anything that has not been said many times on this web page and by many Meath fans in pubs, clubs and workplaces. However, at least that is keeping it within the family. It is not for broadcast to the nation. I'm sure that down in the Wood you have many a good debate on the problems that are besetting you But while many non-Wood men will come on here and give voice to their opinion, I don't hear your good self doing likewise. That's the way it should stay. The real Árd Rí (Meath) - Posts: 990 - 21/11/2008 09:28:32 146664 Link 0 |

County Board delegates not too happy with the Hayes article and maybe it's hard for someone from meath to read this as he is quite an outspoken critic of the Meath set-up but the CB delegates brought this on themselves. Diego (Meath) - Posts: 1210 - 27/11/2008 17:52:17 151784 Link 0 |

i have often attended these county board meetings... same faces there...just alot older..we need younger guys in there.. the older guys feel threatened.. Hayes hit the nail on the head..EOB should have told them to stuff it that he wasnt gonna be picked cuz their preferred choice didnt want it...but when all is said and done..EOB is the boss, and maybe this time next year we might be in a far more positive state..who knows..time will tell! maco (Meath) - Posts: 357 - 28/11/2008 09:56:54 152165 Link 0 |

Thought that this debate was over along with Hayes's chances of ever being Meath manager now that he has disaffected himself from all who think anything of Meath and Meath football. The real Árd Rí (Meath) - Posts: 990 - 28/11/2008 14:43:16 152458 Link 0 |

Hayes must have been saying something close to the truth judging by the reaction of elements of the County Board. Talk about washing dirty linen in public is a bit rich coming from some posters considering that it was the County Board who caused the furore in the first intance by failing to understand how domocracy works. In hindsight they should have employed a mathematician, or someone of that ilk who would have been able to tell them that 3 was greater than 2! browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 28/11/2008 23:34:09 152831 Link 0 |

I see the furore at the last county board meeting over Hayes article..and what do u know..its only the people in positions that moaned...ONE OF THE COMMITTEE who picked EOB said he spoke to Hayes a few days before and Hayes wouldnt say anything "face to face"...im sure Hayes was shakin in his boots... he is entitled to his opinion, the same as everyone..and just because he suggested certain members of the county board would be better buttering bread..than picking a manager, who says hes right..or wrong... its all down to peoples views! maco (Meath) - Posts: 357 - 02/12/2008 13:16:50 154654 Link 0 |

Was interesting to note that a certain Sean Wall of Slane wrote in to the editor of the Tribune the following week slating Hayes for what he said (and rightfully so in my eyes - Hayes wants nothing more than to be the next eamonn dunphy by saying outrageous stuff at times just to get attention). Was just wondering was this the same Sean Wall as the sports journalist in the Drogheda Independent? meathgaa (Meath) - Posts: 33 - 03/12/2008 11:01:00 155645 Link 0 |

Although Sean's address is Slane he's very much a Rathkenny man (just read his reports on slane matches ud know he is not a slane man!). So its just another Rathkenny man jumping to his pals' defence Lad (Meath) - Posts: 136 - 03/12/2008 17:05:38 156079 Link 0 |

An excellent letter who did Hayes think he is slagging the county off. theblindassasin (Meath) - Posts: 915 - 03/12/2008 21:40:20 156377 Link 0 |

More informed when he agrees with your opinion - good lateral thinking and I usually do that also!. I think elements within the county board are the culprits in this instance. As for Hayes I may not agree with most of what he writes but he is entitled to his opinion and considering the way most of the interviewees were treated. One must also consider that a few other former county players also criticzed the shenanigans that went on and you will find that many who criticize Hayes here have played little county football (or any type of football) themselves. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 05/12/2008 21:30:57 158352 Link 0 |

Liam Hayes ought to be ashamed of himself for what he wrote. After serving as a successful player for Meath he should not have slagged of Barney and the rest of the interview panel with such personal attacks. I imagine he would have loved the job but when he knew he was not going to be approached he got sour grapes. Again fair play to Sean for standing up to him on behalf of the true Meath supporters. theblindassasin (Meath) - Posts: 915 - 06/12/2008 18:34:49 158611 Link 0 |
