D_Dude, there are a few reasons why Ballinagh are unpopular.

For 2-3 years, this website was full of people from Ballinagh talking about how they were going to win everything in front of them and treating the Intermediate championship as a formality. It made them an easy target when they failed. They seemed to learn their lesson last year as there wasn't much hype about them until they actually won something.

Secondly, every club has their problem supporters but it does seem that Ballinagh have more than their fair share of them. I didn't hear too much from them at the weekend but I've heard them very bad before. The antics of players like Gaynor and the fella who lay down on the ground in "agony" only to pop and jog off when the referee told him to leave the field at the weekend leave a lot to be desired. I had never seen a more blatant example of time wasting and diving before.

Thirdly, it is because they have an talented football team. If they were popular, it would mean that they were no good.

I think the qualifiers and are irrelevant. It takes a strong panel to win a Championship. Tough games = injuries.

Cavan Gaels could field 3 Championship teams

Unfortunately you are right Con. Cavan Gaels are raging hot favourites to win it. Hopefully Mullahoran can cause an upset and dump them out which would really open things up. It's hard to see anybody else winning the championship but at least we will have a new team in the final this year.

Re my last post; It comes across as dismissive and arrogant and that's not what I meant it to like. I'm not trying to be elitist but it seems to me that the qualifiers are a lot of hard work. Yes, the team to emerge from the qualifier will have momentum and a spirit, but I think they will be banjaxed - on the other side you will have Cavan Gaels training away, priming certain players and trying to make hard decisions about places on the team. Do we pick Fordey, Chesty, Daniel, or Crotty in the back line? Who do we leave out in the fwd line, Meehan, Nico, Nelly, Martin, Dominic, O'Donnell or Jelly?
The team that wins the qualifiers, which is a typical dogfight, will most likely be picking through the wreckage and piecing together a team of uninjured and unsuspended players, not to mention the fact that the nucleus of the team will be trying to recover from a 4 week saga in the space of 2 weeks. It will take a shrewd manager to keep the team conditioned for the qualifiers and then be in a position to fully compete for the quarter final.
But, that's the luck of the draw. After their uccess last year, I think Ballinagh may have the panel and the know-how from a player perspective and from mangament perspective to reach the quarter final stages.

In the qualifier games this weekend, i would fancy Ramor to beat Lacken. I just think they are playing well, they are on a high after beating gowna and wont be afraid of Lacken. They have good scoring forwards in Aido Cole and Paddy MacNamee, along with the strength and fielding of Stepnen Monaghan. If ray Cole can keep a rein on Ray Galligan, and the rest of the backs dont give away frees inside the 45 because he can score frees from anywhere in that area. A spoiler on Trevor Crowe, and get physical on Finbar and the they can look ordinary. However if things go wrong then they could get hammered.
I think Ballinagh should dispose of Castlerahan easily. I dislike them as much as the next fella, but they are going to prove a point. They had no competitive football for a few months, and then were automatically put into the qualifiers. They will want to do a Cork, under different circumstances obviously, but at the minute its really Ballinagh against everybody. No body likes them, and everybody wants them to fail, but i think this is what will drive them on. I think this ban has brought them closer together as a unit. With players like Podge, Gaynor back, and young players like McDermot, and Niall O reilly, coming through they should have too much for a Castlerahan team with a few players missing. Keep a hold on Flannagan and i think Castlerahan will struggle. He is a good player and his distribution in to the inside forwards is crucuial to so much of their play, so if you stop the supply then players like Mackey and Mulvey wont get the scores.

How's all out in 'Ballinagh? ;)

I'd say Lacken might have too much for Ramor and I'd would fancy Ballinagh to take this contest.

When are these refixed for?

Does anyboay know: Whether the teams in the Senior, Inter and Junior championships which got a bye in the first round of the back door can they still be relegated?

Castlerahan and BBORO received the bye last yr and automatically could not be relageted

The postponed Senior qualifiers have been rescheduled for next Sunday. I think 4:30pm and 6:30pm.

JamesMae, they can be relegated if they're beaten in their qualifier semi-final. They would go into the relegation play-off with the losers of the first round of qualifiers.

Actually. The Ballinagh Castlerahan match is Sunday at 6:30. The Ramor Lacken match is Saturday at 6:30. Shame as you won't be able to get two matches for the price of one like you would have last Sunday.

Prediction for Qualifiers & Quarter-Finals.

Castlerahan v Ballinagh: Castlerahan by a point. I think a big open pitch like Breffni suits the way they play. They gave the Gaels a fright 2 years ago. Ballinagh are both a strong & well prepared team. They will be deserving favourites & already have one up on Castlerahan from the U-21 match just over a week or so ago. However, I expect a turn up for the books here.

Lacken v Ramor: Lacken by 1-3 points. I just think that since they saved their Div.1 status last year, they have played without fear & have strengthened their performances in a big way. When Lackend dominate midfield, they almost always win their matches. I see this happening in this game yet again. Give alot of credit to Ramor for their win against Gowna. They have alot of talented young players mixed with a few experienced campaigners. But I think that match may have taken its toll mentally.

Denn v Cuchullains: Cuchullains by 1 point. My suspicion here is that this will be one of the tightest games played in Breffni. Both teams have a great opportunity to grab a semi-final place. Both are evenly matched but I think Cuchullains may squeeze through because of their accuracy from frees & greater goal threats. If Denn were to come through, expect their half back line to have dominated.

Killygarry v Crosserlough: Crosserlough by 3-5 points. One of the under-rated teams in the championship. Their record isn't great in the chamiponship over the past few years but they are a tuff nut to crack this year. They have strong players in defence, a mobile midfield partnership & quick forwards who can punish opposition defences. Killygarry will be depending on 2 or 3 key players to score big. That's not going to be enough I feel.

Cavan Gaels v Mullahoran: Cavan Gaels by 4-6 points. No surprise here. When you have a bunch of players at your disposal who are used to winning medals at all age groups & a succession of inter county titles, it can only breed confidence. The Gaels are the team to beat yet again. They have subs who would walk onto other club teams. Mullahoran will not be afraid of them & proved that 2 years ago but they will struggle to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Kingscourt v Qualifier: Kingscourt by 2-4 points. Bit of a surprise to most of you. I just think that although the Qualifier may have 3 successive competitive wins under their belts, that they may come up short in this match. Kingscourt have slipped under the radar & will be suited by the underdog tag. The qualifying team will be fancied & will have proven they are a force to be reckoned with as Gowna proved last year. I think Kingscourt are an interesting outsider who could surprise many.

Well i think myself lacken will beat Ramor by the narrowest of margins and ballinagh to pip castlerahan in the last few minutes by a few pints they have an around better team as long as they are able to perform on the day, lackens dv 1 experience should b enough to see them through but i wouldn't write ramor or castlerahan off they have both good teams!!

No interest in the Championship cause it's only teams that will have no bearing on the outcome that are playing at the minute. It's a joke, Gaels played on the 29th of July and don't play till the 7th of Sept and that's subject to change depending on results in th qualifiers. Imagine we had a good County team what the fixtures would be like. Why can't League and U-21 championship be played?
