Just wondering why there is none of the qualifier games on this weekend. Surely they should of made ballinagh play this weekend, as castlerahan have to wait a further week for the winner of this fixture & it means the teams on the other side of the draw will be waiting on the winners to come thru the ballinagh/castlerahan/knockbride games.

Crosserlough 0-13. Gowna 0-9. Poor first half, better second half, best team won. Crosserlough play Killygarry, Gowna play Ramor.

think it finished 14 to 9. Was delighted to see crosserlough win. Gowna could be in serious trouble in the next few years. Their players dont seem to be there anymore. Whats the story with pierson, he never got off the bench, paddy brady was up in the stand near me. Is he injured or what. Surely the 2 hartens will pack it in this year, if not any team would be delighted to see them starting a championship game. Gowna are a spent force. No other forward for gowna looked threatening. The ref was ok, gave som dunious decisions on both sides. Gaffney caught some great ball. Crosserlough are no great shakes either. If you dont foul their forwards they will not score much. They rely alot on frees.
Would be surprised if gowna came thru the back door. Ballonagh would beat them if they met. Ramor will give them a good game. They are fast & lively & have good forwards who can score from play unlike crosselough. So it could be an interesting battle.

What did everyone think of Crosserlough beating Gowna in the replay on saturday. Is it a case of Gowna are going downhill fast, or are Crosserough getting better and being capable of challenging for the title this year. Normally when you see a team like Crosserlough get a draw first day out, eveyone normally says their chance is gone, you needed to catch them on the hop so on so on.

i think its a case of gowna going down hill. They had no other forward who looked capable of scoring from play bar mccabe. it would be interesting to see how much mccabe did score himself. Anyone know ??. id say he got 6 or 7 points out of the 9. Think mckeever might of got one also. unless pierson gets back playing i think they'll struggle against ramor. Crosserlough scored most of their scores from frees & got a couple from play near the end due to some bad kick outs by the keeper. Crosserlough forwards would not be dangerous enough from what i saw to make it to a championship final.

Any predictions on the weekends qualifers??

the future will be attending as many qualifier games this weekend as he can...
Gowna V Ramor
saw Gowna play last week, and also Ramor the week before...i think Ramor will have too much for an ageing, slowing Gowna team who depend almost totally on Big Dermo to kick scores, he was enormous under the high ball on the square against crosserlough and i think he could be just as dangerous against Ramor, although Ray Cole will be just as strong and experienced to frustrate Dermot....not that he gets frustrated easily or anything!!! forwards wll be too good and too fast for Gowna, Anton Reilly too fit and good in the air for Harten or anyone else...Mckeever just doesnt have enough help around the middle....
Knockbride V Ballinagh
Didnt see it but my brother saw Denn beat Knockbride, they were so poor for first 20 mins, denn had it more or less wrapped up by half time, 12/13 poinnts up at that stage, different team in second half, they packed out midfield, won more breaks and had John Tierney at full forward winning everything. Dont know if he'll be there again, if he's midfield Ballinagh will need to put someone on him, sets up a lot of attacks, not the tallest but i think the Nagh are missing Adrian Maguire so might not have the height in the middle which will suit Knockbride. A lot will depend on how Pauric Reilly handles either Peter or Larry, i assume he'll on one of them, possibly Tierney either if he's on the square, that'd be a good physical battle...Ballinagh have good scoring forwards with pace, knockbride need to start better than Denn match or they have no hope...

Lacken V Belturbet
The Crowe brothers dominated midfield against the gaels but were beaten in every other part of the field...not sure who plays there for Belturbet but they'll need to win 50-50 at least, as Lacken forwards especially Galliagan will score from everywhere...dont see Finbar scoring as much these days, playing more of a play making role and doing it very well...Jason needs to be marked tight, not playing that well but has the touch of class to hit 1-1 in couple mins and winning the game...

Verdicts: Ramor by 4 in a poor game, McCabe to be frustrated to the point of red card, Anton to dominate midfield, McKeever to run non stop for last 10 mins and alomst inspire a comback

Ballinagh by 2/3 in an open game, Ballinagh to hit Larry and Peter hard, if they win midfield they win, if not Tierney will set up attack after attack and kick a few himself, Gaynor could be the difference, will be out to prove a point.

Lacken by 5+ in a tough hard hitting game...Crowes to dominate, lacken too good up front, if Belturbet backs can keep scoring down, they mite shade a low scoring game....

Id fancy the gaels to beat mullahorean easily by 4 or 5 and will go far in the championship.

The message board seems to be very dead since cavans exit to kildare. Very few championship reports have been posted on the page. Nobody is commenting on games. You would hardly think the championship is on its so quiet on the message front. Is everyone on holidays ! is there no report from the gowna v crosserlough game. Or are gowna still sulking.

thefuture,
Agree with most of your predictions about forthcoming games. Anton Reilly is a good mid-fielder, but have yet to see him dominate mid-field this year. Gowna are coming to a new era, they will have to bring on younger players, their only hope for the game V Ramor is that the drink fest is continuing in Virginia....haven't heard, are they back at training yet???

Just a quick word on Crosserlough's win against Gowna. I'm a Lacken man (obviously) so "The Lough" are our fierce rivals, but I must praise them for beating Gowna. Crosserlough are probably the true kingpins of Cavan football, their teams in the 1960s and 1970s are legendary, my old boy never quits going on about Andy McCabe and Gene Cusack, and it's about time they recorded a win like this. Strong Crosserlough=stronger Cavan team. I would actually like to see them win the championship, and you know what, I think they might just do it. Do you?

LackenAdonis, i agree with you on alot of things about the lough you said but are your "fierce rivals" not ballinagh? Because your ours.

No i think "the lough" are a year or two away from being main contenders, i think the gaels have a bit to much for them and the likes of mullahoran's experience would see them through the lough. but in saying that i wasnt suprised with the gowna result, they are not what they used to be.
any toughts?

i hear ballinagh bet knockbride after extra time. seemingly gaynor should have got sent off after coming on and it is first game back after that suspension. ballinagh now play castlerahan

Heard the poor auld gownas went out of the championship last nite, will this be the last of them as a force in cavan football? or is it...........

Well i was at the game myself and i thought that knockbrides number 8 was very dirty the standard was poor in bad conditions but i think ballinagh needed this game to bring them on. Larry reilly should have been sent off but the ref seemed to turn a blind eye, the only incidient with Gaynor was when he shouldered the knockbride No 8 and the player started play acting to get Gaynor booked its no wonder there's a low standard of football in Cavan, i thought the refereeing was of a poor standard but ballinagh's class showed in the end when they introduced gaynor in extra time should they have a full panel to pick from inn the next game i would expect them to beat castlerahan. Also there's no way larry reilly is up to county standard, hasn't the legs anymore. id say a lot of people where unhappy to see ballinagh win this one as their not the most popular team in the county.
