bolt i agree dont think they played at all to their ability but thats because denn didnt allow them. im amazed how the ref didnt hand out more cards to denn players as they were constantly fouling off the ball. surely the linesmen and umpires could see this. if cavan had the whole denn backline and played with the same pride they would be a team cavanforever (Cavan) - Posts: 190 - 31/08/2009 14:55:07 410153 Link 0 |
Denn won't progress any further in this year's championship. They scored 1-1 in the second half, the goal from a penalty which was a very poor decision. I don't see how scoring just one point from play in the whole second half will be enough to beat the likes of the Gaels and Gowna. Ridiculous off-the-ball stuff throughout too which the referee chose to ignore. While they have a good defence, I can't see them wrapping the Gaels forwards up as they did Castlerahan's last night. lockerocker (Cavan) - Posts: 34 - 31/08/2009 16:20:18 410320 Link 0 |
Castlerahan were bet by the better team last night - fact. They weren't strong enough or physical enough and refused to hit back or stand up for themselves. This is all true but it was not a good result for Cavan football last night. Denn will play like this week in and week out and play to their strengths and hats off to them - but this Denn team will not ever win a senior championship because they're not good enough. They will get to a county final based on pulling and dragging and pulling other teams down to their level. Its all very well saying that the county team needs their heart and desire but ye need to be able to play football as well which a lot of the Denn defenders don't. What they got away with on the pitch physically and verbally was an absolute disgrace. The ref suited them. The linesman was too busy chattin to the denn selector throughout the match to notice or care what was going on. Mackey,Flanagan,Oisin OConnell are a joy to watch and players in this county who are a joy to watch should be protected. cavandude (Cavan) - Posts: 29 - 31/08/2009 17:22:54 410460 Link 0 |
You will have no argument from me on the fact that Denn deserved to win. Hungrier team on the night no question. The actions of their corner back however has me questioning my love of the game. I sincerley hope that the umpires on the night missed the incidents is question for if they witnessed it and decided not to act they should be ashamed of themselves. rahanman (Cavan) - Posts: 127 - 31/08/2009 17:45:40 410508 Link 0 |

It will be very interesting if Denn get Gowna in the semis. I dont think the game plan of pulling, dragging and swinging elbows will work on the likes of McKeever and the Hartins. Will Gary Farrelly be able to come up with another game plan to beat a team where they dont have to play football Crash Bang Wallop (None) - Posts: 268 - 31/08/2009 18:30:06 410586 Link 0 |
denn vs. castlerahan.it was absolutely disgusting to watch denn maul, physically and verbally abuse the castlerahan players in breffni last night.if thats what he takes to win then im glad im not from denn.mackey was accosted several times-boxed in the face to the ground twice.ronan flanagan was verbally abused by---.denn are no bigger than castlerahan.they deserved their win purely on determination to win but they will not go any further in the competition.the penalty they got you wouldnt be given a free for in underage football.if castlerahan werent mauled and beaten then we would of seen a game of football by those that can actually play football. likeitloveit (Cavan) - Posts: 1 - 31/08/2009 18:41:32 410607 Link 0 |
denn deserve a lot of credit for their championship run this year after such a disasterous league, im not sayin thats it for them now but getting this far is a massive achievment in itself! who knows it could be a repeat of last years final yet natureboy.woo (Cavan) - Posts: 73 - 31/08/2009 18:47:49 410614 Link 0 |
cavandude and rahanman i fully agree. denn should be ashamed of themselves it surely wasnt football they were playing. castlerahan who i think are one of the most skillfull teams in the county who play good football were just not allowd and its sad to see teams that play good flowing football be beat by teams who want to drag pull and whatever they can to stop the other team from playing.where was the ref for he did nothing about it. anyway denn won and they are through but they wont get away with these antics against the gaels. madforsam (Cavan) - Posts: 92 - 31/08/2009 18:48:39 410615 Link 0 |
Great to see Denn win thisevening. The team with the most passion and committment won. If only our county team could play like this. Interesting to see how the county lads were made look v ordinary when it was put up to them by the more hard hitting and committed team. Well done Denn again..... The last time I looked a swing of the elbow wasnt a legal tackle....in fact one that deserves a red card. Just a thought. Crash Bang Wallop (None) - Posts: 268 - 31/08/2009 18:53:31 410618 Link 0 |
There are 7 neutral officials on duty. They should make in their business to be more aware of whats going on!!! Crash Bang Wallop (None) - Posts: 268 - 31/08/2009 19:20:05 410649 Link 0 |
A lot of complaints about the Denn backline on here and people saying how good players should be protected.... Maybe thats whats wrong with our county team lads - lots of nice neat footballers that if let play will destroy a team but the fact is that when they get to ulster championship time they meet opposition that will do what Denn done last nite and alas Cavan get nowhere. I'm not saying we pack the county team with Denn defenders or players of that style but surely one or two sprinkled around the team would be no harm. A physical edge has been missing in Cavan football over the past few years (mainly due to refs giving handly frees to light forwards) and this has pushed the big man outta the game in the county. This, in my oponion, has cost us when it comes to competing at county level.......... Rant over....... driveiton (Cavan) - Posts: 49 - 31/08/2009 19:25:41 410658 Link 0 |

Ok lads so one of the favorites to give the gaels a good run are unexpectedly out! What do yaz think the realistic chance is for the remaining teams? I havent seen any cavan games in near 4 years but i do read all the reports so basically looking for the heads up! As a Killygarry man i think we are capable of beating Gowna tho i see alot of posters here are saying otherwise! Hear mullahorn arent going as well as the last few years too! Proper intelligent responses please coz i really dont want to be reading "the gaels are class n everyone else is useless"! cheers JamsieMac (Cavan) - Posts: 482 - 01/09/2009 05:48:23 411158 Link 0 |

How are the Gaels class....the best team in Cavan yes, but class, ur in dreamland my humble friend. Class teams would make an impact by winning at least a provincial club title, if not an All Ireland title.....Corofin/Crossmaglen are class, the Gaels are not anywhere near that level Crash Bang Wallop (None) - Posts: 268 - 01/09/2009 17:39:03 412016 Link 0 |

JamsieMac Killygarry haven't been the same since James McGovern left the country 4 years ago. No one left to wave at the kickouts. WolfeTone (Galway) - Posts: 123 - 02/09/2009 16:11:58 413263 Link 0 |
after reading through the message boards about the denn and castlerathan game it amazes me the attitude of people. to win a championship game, game plays and tactics are a must to succeed. denn went out with a game plan to man mark the castlerathan players witch was needed with their pace. rough yes it was wrong no it wasnt it was old school football and castlerathan got thought that passion sheer determination is needed to succeed in championship football.a game a football is there to be won by any means necessary and denn showed this. good luck denn whatabout (Cavan) - Posts: 2 - 02/09/2009 20:43:30 413649 Link 0 |
