Re paddymac:

Yeah McAweeney from Templeport scored 3-1, but two of them were tap-ins and the other was setup for him. I wouldn't read too much into it. That report in the Post isn't exactly accurate anyway.

MacAweeny is only 18 but is a good player. A lot to learn yet but one for the future.

McNulty why shouldnt the like of Martin Reilly or Sean Brady or any other county player not have to come in and prove themselves in the Regional games? We have a new manager in Cavan that should be picking a panel from scratch.Thats whats wrong with Cavan football, too many lads allowed live off their reputation from Minor level. We'r still waiting on some lads to perform at County level and they have been on the panel 5 or 6 years. If the County Captain can turn up for all the games then why shouldnt everybody else.If they dont show up for Regional games or Trials then they shouldnt be picked. But we all know that wont happen in Cavan.

The regional games are not going to make Cavan football better. What I am saying is that training should be provided to players who are good enough and who want it to improve the standard in all clubs be it Division 1,2 or 3. I couldn't care less if any games were actually played. Nearly all the people in at the regional games were there on past reputation and played as everyone knows they would fairly well but we are hardly going to discover Kieran Donaghy now are we?

Would it not be better for all the clubs if they were each obliged to send in 4 or 5 to train with a regional team instead of hand picking a few lads who played county minor or under 21 expecting them to turn up on a sunday morning only to find out that a lot of them stayed in bed.

I'm fed up of reading peoples opinions on who should be picked for minor or senior teams. some clubs are talked about on this site like they are a joke with no players good enough to be on a county panel, that may well be true but is it doing those clubs or the county any good? It is a fact that Cavan will never achieve any form of success if the clubs aren't helped to improve standards. the dominance of cavan gaels is admirable but also worrying for the county as a whole.
