Former Roscommon midfielder Michael Finneran has been appointed Westmeath ladies football manager.

The St Dominic’s, Knockcroghery clubman managed the Roscommon ladies for four years, during which time he led them to two Connacht intermediate titles and an All-Ireland intermediate semi-final appearance. Prior to that, he won Connacht SFC and National League honours during a 10-year playing career with the Rossies.

Finneran’s backroom team will include strength and conditioning coach Shane Monaghan and team administrator Marie Kelly. He replaces Sean Finnegan, who stepped down after guiding the Lake County to All-Ireland intermediate glory in September, and has since taken charge of the Kildare ladies.

“We wish Michael and his backroom team the very best in next year’s Division 1 League and the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship,” a Westmeath LGFA statement read.
