Former Tipperary star Brendan Maher will be part of the new Offaly senior hurling management set-up.

Tipperary Live is reporting that the three-time All-Ireland winner, who announced his inter-county retirement last year, will join his older brother Martin in manager Johnny Kelly’s backroom team. It’s understood that the 2016 All-Ireland winning captain will work as a performance coach.

Maher played under Kelly when he managed Borris-Ileigh to their first Tipperary SHC title in 33 years in 2019 before going on to win Munster honours and contest the All-Ireland final against Kilkenny’s Ballyhale Shamrocks in January 2020.

Portumna man Kelly was appointed Faithful boss last month after serving as a coach under Michael Fennelly for the past three seasons. It was already confirmed that Coolderry’s Barry Teehan would be continuing as a selector, while 2017 Galway All-Ireland winning goalkeeper Colm Callanan is also remaining on board as a goalkeeping coach.
