Cork's Patrick Horgan has become the highest scorer in hurling championship history with 22-505 (571 points) in 69 matches.

The 34-year-old Glen Rovers clubman scored 0-4 in his side's Munster SHC victory over Waterford to take over the mantle from now retired Galway star Joe Canning (27-487 (568 points)), who had surpassed Henry Shefflin's record haul of 27-484 (565 points) in 2021.

Cementing himself as one of the best players of his generation, 'Hoggie' already became the hurling championship's leading point scorer from play last year.

In 2017, he overtook the legendary Christy Ring as Cork's all-time record championship scorer.
