Water breaks have returned to club games this week as temperatures continue to soar throughout Ireland.

The breaks midway through each half were introduced in GAA matches in 2020 and 2021 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic in an effort to stop the spread of the virus.

They were removed earlier this year following the competition of inter-county pre-season competitions.

However, with temperatures set to soar above 30 degrees Celsius this weekend in some parts of Ireland, some county boards have decided to reintroduce the water breaks as they get set to play in the hot conditions.

Many club championships are in full swing across the country at the moment, with Dublin and Tyrone already confirming the measure to use water breaks this weekend and more counites are expected to follow suit.

A note from Dublin GAA CCC:
Due to the current heatwave, and on an exceptional basis, the CCC has decided that for all games being played this weekend, August 12 to 14th inclusive, there will be a water break (approx 1 minute) at or about the 15th minute of each half of a game
