Down county board are set to launch an investigation into the ugly scenes which saw six players sent off in Wednesday night’s All-County Football League final.

Three players each from Burren and Kilcoo were issued red cards by referee Conor Curran following a mass brawl which broke out with 10 minutes to go in the Division 1 decider at Mayobridge.

Burren won the game by 1-12 to 0-7.

Burren’s Odhran Murdock, Danny Magill and Ryan Magill all saw red while Kilcoo trio Jerome and Ryan Johnston and Sean Og McCusker were also sent off.

A red card would usually leave a player suspended for the following league game, leaving all six out of next year’s opening league fixture for their team, but should Down’s CCC cite more serious infractions than players could see bans handed down for the upcoming club championship campaign.

All-Ireland champions Kilcoo are set to commence their senior championship defence next Friday, August 26, when they face Clonduff at Pairc Esler (7pm).
