The Corona Virus And Possible Effects To GAA Matches - 5 Like(s)
Replying To The_analyser: "As long as the case numbers remain low and hospitals have very few with Covid 19 (10 nationwide last night) I see no reason why it would get pulled.
Now we will likely get the odd delay here a there but that's something we should all understand as guidelines are followed out. The Derry clubs for example are taking no chances and should be commended for that.
Having the extra 300 at games from Monday wouldn't have made a difference to the overall situation but it is what it is now and strangely have to wait until August 10th for at least 500 at games. By then in Roscommon that would be the the final round of group games so I would expect a big interest in those games and thankfully we have a streaming service up and running." I totally agree and I see some comments on here slamming the president for asking for the limit to be increased to 500 for games where it is possible to social distance. Do they not realise that he is being guided by his own team that includes medical experts. I cannot understand how anyone would condemn him for this. If you take the players and management out of the 200 you are only talking about 100 spectators at the most which is absolutely ridiculous. I believe he was correct to ask as it was safe to do so.

The Corona Virus And Possible Effects To GAA Matches - 3 Like(s)
Firstly lets all agree we have no idea how this is going to pan out and I think the next few weeks will be crucial including the first few phases. We will all listen to the health experts and if they say it is safe to play then we will have club games at the very least this year. The GAA came out yesterday with a statement that for me is following the guidelines set out by the Govt on the advise of our health experts, the best in this country. It is great to see that alignment. I would also like to commend the GAA for putting club activity ahead of inter county activity, at the end of the day club activity is the heart and soul of communities. Our own club senior panel consisting of approx 30 players have been training on their own since the middle of March, all following the same program. There is no doubt that all these players want to play GAA this year. So yes there will be some players who feel the risk is too great but they will be in the vast minority. The statistics that are emerging are really showing young people are getting mild forms of this virus and practically no deaths thankfully. Yes there is the risk of bringing it home but again with the right measures in place at home , this can be mitigated successfully. I read a statistic the other day that the amount of people who have died from Coivd 19 in this country under the age of 40 was 14. I know 14 is 14 too many but this is statistic and there are other statistics that are beginning to evolve based on data over significant periods of time, that give confidence to schools and sport being back on the agenda later this summer. Finally people on here are giving out about the lack of clarity from the GAA but I have to say I have been completely frustrated in respect to the lack of communications or clarity on the leaving cert. The stats again show that the leaving cert should go ahead - in my opinion if the leaving cert does not go ahead it will be a sad reflection of the governance of our educational system, heads will need to roll. There is no reason why the appropriate measures cannot be put in place around social distancing etc for the leaving cert. The only reason that the LC should not go ahead is based on the advice of the health experts and I just cannot currently see them advising against it.

I have to say I have watched the incident several times and from what you can see it looked a terrible act. I personally think he should have received a much longer ban and has been very lucky not to receive one. By giving him a one match ban they have basically acknowledged that he committed the offense. He has been playing very well so is a big loss for Sunday.

Hoping management team have everyone available come June 28th. If they do and they pick the best team then they will give a decent account of themselves.

Replying To B&G: "Frankie Dolan had legendary status during his long and distinguished career. He would be able to bring the best out of the squad. Don't think that a joint ticket with Shane Curran would work.
Should not go out of the county again." If you honestly believe the Roscommon public would get behind a team managed by the two individuals mentioned in your post then you are sadly wrong.

An absolutely disgraceful performance and the majority of the blame must be placed on the management. Our players looked light compared to the Galway team. No S&C in my opinion or if there was it was not the right S&C. We have had terrible appointments at this age group over the last few years and for me the people who are making these appointments are not the correct people. The only player that held his reputation was Dara Walsh but saying that he was deployed too deep and the more the game went on the more ineffective he became. Midfield was terrible and how management did not come up with a game plan to bypass the Galway midfield was just incredible.

Replying To The_analyser: "Only 3 of the Roscommon starting team was aged 20 a few others turn 20 at the end of the year. So it was mostly teenagers in action.
One or two needs to cool the jets on here. Even our senior footballers have suffered simliar beatings and baby wasn't thrown out with the bath water. Nobody died, you live and learn from it and for all we know last Saturday could be a blessing in disguise for many of these young Roscommon players." I don't think anyone on here is laying the blame on the players, the problem this year was management or the lack of. The manager's position needs to be reviewed and to be honest if he will have to provide a very good case to be kept in the role next year. This way the team has been poorly prepared this year and presented for a Connaught final is sufficient to be looking for a new management team now.

Replying To The_analyser: "Again i would have to question the seriousness of this post when you are talking about All Ireland. Our ceiling if everything worked out well is doing a Monaghan which is reaching AI semi final and becoming an established Div one team.
Commitment to county level football is what it is nowadays and its even huge for Div 4 sides never mind us who hope to stay in Div 1. Your absolutely nothing comment i can't get my head around at all. You do realize that for long time without the hard work we were a Div 3 team?
In the previous post you were ranting about Roscommon Gaels players that should be on the panel even though all apart from a injured Kilcline were asked in by this management and can't play due to travel and work. You had another post stating Clann na nGael the county and league champions had only 3 or 4 players good enough to play for the county.
I'm not sure what your club is but my own is a intermediate club with no county players on it and i carry no such bias. As far as i am concerned once a player puts on the primrose and blue jersey what club he plays for no longer matters. As supporters we should be focused on the best 30+ players that has made themselves available and row in behind them. Judge them on their performances and not from what club they are from." Again I am not sure why you are getting so agitated with my posts, I certainly don't reply in a negative way to anyone's posts. My posts are just a personal opinion like anyone else that posts on here. I am not saying I am right or wrong, I am just saying what I feel and what I believe needs to happen. I am not hear to say you are wrong so when you use statements like "your absolutely nothing comment" reflects more on you as a person than any of my posts. In relation to the posts I made previously, there are only 3-4 players from Clann good enough for county which I believe is correct but there are also 3-4 players from Brigids and imo there are more than 3-4 players from Gaels who are county standard, again all in my opinion. That is 12-15 players, not 5 that are currently in squad who in my opinion are good enough to play county football. Put these players into a county squad after an adjustment to the county commitments because of work and travel commitments and you have automatically improved your chances of success. In any case all I am saying commitment at county does not have to be huge. And just to finally say I attend more Roscommon games than I miss so my commitment to the 30 players who represent the county should not be questioned. I would not be posting on this site if I was an armchair supporter.

Roscommon Ladies Connacht Final. - 2 Like(s)
A very enjoyable game, at HT it looked as if Clann were going to win but after that it was all Kilbride and they deservedly won the game. Saying this Clann missed a glorious chance with nearly the last kick of the game in normal time to win it. In many ways it would have been an undeserved victory as Kilbride had the better performance to that point. Clann were very poor for the last 3 periods, looked unfit, lacked any ideas e.g. kick outs and attacking options. On the other hand Kilbride looked fitter and were far better set up. Best for Kilbride were there 3, 6, both midfielders, 10, 14 and 26. The 9, and 10 were excellent but the 26 was outstanding and won every ball that went in her direction to set up endless scores for Kilbride. A great advert for football and a fantastic attendance.

Niall Daly, Conor Hussey and Cox all had very good games under the circumstances. Pitty we didnt take a goal chance or two score line wouldnt have looked as bad as it did. Successful year so far but i would like to get a win against cork and not finish at the bottom of the table when you look at the two teams above us its not a bad reflection.
Goal for next year blood some more new players find out if conor cox has a brother ha retain connacht be happy enough with that." I totally agree with you on Conor Daly. I think he has done well this year so a one game punishment is all that's needed to ensure he does not do it again and let the team down. Anyone on here defending him should know better. I think we should be focusing on some of the positives from the weekend. Everyone is mentioning Niall Daly and Conor Cox but I thought another player who never threw in the towel was Enda Smith, I thought he was brilliant. I am looking forward to a positive performance against a good Cork team and hopefully some of the fringe players get a run from the start in a strong team.

The Corona Virus And Possible Effects To GAA Matches - 2 Like(s)
I would like to throw something out for discussion in light of the huge positivity in terms of all aspects of dealing with Covid 19. I think we all only want to restart sport in a safe environment. There is certainly a changing mindset at the moment in that now based on the large data we are assembling and the opinions of medical experts, there are now more people confident that with the correct measures in place then we can return to sport a lot earlier than planned without a vaccine. Lets assume this is possibility for a minute with the correct measures and we can make this happen with little or no risk of infection or bringing it home. The GAA have said that club will proceed county which is correct as the GAA is the heart of the community. With this in mind I would say that there are decisions to make here. Firstly should underage football return this year. My own personal opinion is that it should not for a few reasons, too many players, too many games and too much of a commitment on referees. The volume of games, the volume of players and considering the challenges of maintaining social distancing in these age groups, I just cant see it in the current climate. I was coming out of a food store the other day, 4 young lads definitely 15/16/17 age group, packed in a car, windows down smoking. Adults have more awareness of the importance of our actions. For me I would say no to underage football. I would also say no to intercounty football with the aim to complete this year's league in advance of the 2021 league next year. This leaves senior club football which for me is the one that makes most sense to recommence first. With no underage and no intercounty, clubs may have only one senior team or they may have two (a senior and junior team). I would say that all senior club championships without the distractions and complications of underage and inter county would be the correct way to get GAA back in some form in 2020. Now this is an opinion and I would like to hear other opinions on this.

Replying To catch22: "Some decent ideas there and I'm just not ready to write it off yet unlike a lot of the other contributors here.
If there's any possibility I think they have to keep the option open.
Even if it's county championship in September October on a knockout basis and some of the early games behind closed doors I think it could be done if the virus is under control and there's a vaccine. So no, I'm not going to take it as a done deal just yet no matter how pessimistic some might be." I also agree, in fact back playing sport in as safe as environment as is possible with the right measures in place would appear to me to be a lot less riskier than for example travelling to work on the LUAS, or a train, or a bus in rush hour with packed commuters of different ages etc.. For years I used to commute to Dublin and the train was jammed for the 1hour 15 minute journey. I just can't see Irish rail, LUAS and Bus Eireann not operating this year, that's my perspective. In fact as I write that first sentence if public transport is brought back in then I believe we will see sport this year in some form as I believe there is more chance of catching the virus on a packed LUAS than on a football pitch. Lets stay safe but lets all stay positive and let us trust the experts to make the correct decisions but the decisions made have to make sense across the board e.g. not allowing club matches to be played in front of a couple of hundred people but yet allowing the LUAS to run as normal would eb totally wrong.

I feared for us today but what a terrific result. Hammered in both the minor and U20s, we win the one that really matters. The difference was our forwards and our bench. I thought Conor Hussey was excellent today, as was Cathal Cregg in the first half but Conor Cox was the real star, he is some find. Congrats to Anthony, his team and all the players.

Some major surprises tonight with both Clann and Brigids losing. I went to the Clann game and I have to say Western Gaels thoroughly deserved their win, in fact if they had won by 10 points it would have been a better reflection of the game. Their defense was very solid, Seanie Mac still a super leader, Clann midfield did nto have the legs to stay with Higgins and Cregg. Clann were simply awful and to be honest they have gone backwards. Their defense was ok, Petitt in midfield had a good game but their forwards were brutal, their 11, 12 and 13 barely touched the ball in the entire game. Ciaran Lennon also had a poor showing but it would be hard to blame him as there was little or no support or creativity around him. Clann v Boyle next is a a huge game already and if Boyle were to beat them they will be in big trouble. Western Gaels played very well despite missing some key players and completely deserved this win and should have won the game by alot more. Clann have alot of work to do this week - I really worry for them.

Replying To SmokieRoss: "Some people post on here without thinking of the whole picture wiyhout taking into account of all the facts. Clann B who are one of the favourites for Junior A championship and won it two years ago would be promoted to Intermediate Championship next year were they to win Junior A again and are already through to quarter finals.
Were Clann seniors be relegated to the intermediate championship there can't be two teams from the one club in the same Championship. Unless there is something in the competition rules that says the lower ranked team in the club shall remain a junior team then Clann if relegated from senior ranks and win junior Championship will enforce the rule that you cannot have two teams in the one competition hence they will stay senior.
Same scenario for St. Bridgids whose juniors are already through to the Junior A quarter finals. Both clubs have already indicated their intentions should they be relegated from senior and win junior." Absolute rubbish and if both clubs have already indicated their intentions then I would say that the county board have not stopped laughing since. The bottom line is that if a team are relegated then they are relegated irrespective of them having a team in the championship below. If Brigids or Clann win the junior championship then the county board will give approval for the junior championship team to remain junior for the following year. I have to say if anyone in either club has already indicated this to the county board then they should really consider themselves quite foolish in my opinion. Th integrity of the most important competition in the county would be diminished, imagine the reaction and turmoil it would cause within the clubs in the county.

A very disappointing result but hats off to the players they gave everything for the cause. I really hope that's the last we have seen of Curran anywhere near a county set up - simply out of his depth. He was lucky last year and should have been well beaten by Sligo in the first round and really Leitrim should have beaten us last weekend. Well done to the players for their efforts though. Last year I could see the likes of McKeon making the jump to senior. I just don't see it this year with this group. The pick of the defenders is Evan Flynn and forwards young Dowd but apart from this I can see nobody currently making the jump. Players like Heneghan and Walsh who both were not available are players who can definitely make that jump.

I just wanted to finish the FBD campaign with a few positives. Firstly I would like to congratulate Anthony and his team for giving new players game time and mixing the team selections up very well. I felt a lot of thought was put into the team selections and a lot of what they were trying made perfect sense. Well done. Secondly I would not get too disappointed with the defeat yesterday. I believe that 3 of the back 4 that played yesterday will not be anywhere near the championship team. Neary and Richardson both need more time to develop and I don't think either of them are good enough to play championship football at this moment. As for the keeper, not sure about him either but as said in previous posts totally against playing football for a county team having never played football within the county. Overall a good FBD experience and I think players like Dowd, Hughes, Gately and Ruane are players that can add to the FBD experience with league time.

Minors are a decent team this year that with a bit of luck will give Mayo/Galway a good run of it. Very good options in goal, hearing very good things about last year's u16 keeper. Very good in midfield, two big men in Murray and Corcoran will be a handful for most teams, will be interested to see if they can play together (perhaps they can with a sweeper). Forwards have a lot of potential, watched their first minor game against Longford and they were extremely efficient especially first half. They have 6/7 cracking good forwards - real shame they will be fighting for 5 places but perhaps one of these forwards could be deployed as a sweeper. Defence is the worry at the moment. However they have a few injuries or players not ready at the moment. Hopefully they will be back soon to improve the defence. Looking forward to seeing how they go this year, tough draw but perhaps the time to beat Galway or Mayo is the semi final.
