Sad to near the news about Mick McCormack, the match day experience will be darker now without him, wonderful character and die rossie and talented photographer he was. Thoughts with family.

Replying To Belclare:  "Galway to win and bring Sam West."
Beclare some change in your confidence levels from before the Connacht final when you coming onto our thread and were tipping Roscommon to win. As for Sunday and is for every AI final I've watched the team that defends best will win and on Sunday curbing the influence of Sean O'Shea and David Clifford will be key in order for Galway to win. All the best to our neighbours on Sunday

I suppose the two FBD games has served it's purpose with loads of newbies getting game time and two competitive displays. We should have been more than 1 point in front at half time and Galway should have won that 2nd half by more than 3 points so the two point margin at the end probably about right. Two weeks to prepare for the important Cork game hopefully a few of our injured players are available for selection then. The very best of luck to St Faithleachs in the intermediate Connacht final tomorrow.

Replying To rosco7:  "Irish Independent Sport: "Jack Duggan to follow father Derek's footsteps in move to Roscommon" A sad day for Longford Development to lose a player that developed right through their underage structure. Almost half the Roscommon hurling team are from other counties - looks like Roscommon football is following suit. Not a great news story for Roscommon Development either if players are just going to be transferred in from other counties."
Half? your maths aren't the best. As for the footballers not from Roscommon all three have strong Roscommon blood. We have Conor Carroll who's dad and our County board chairman are rossies. Conor Cox who's dad is a Eire og and why he's playing for them and Jack who always had the option of switching with Derek as dad. Nothing sad about it, transfers via parentage have been part of the gaa for decades. Main Roscommon news story today is Ciarain Murtagh talking about the season ahead. He was undecided on what he was doing with a trip to Kenya and a marriage coming up but that gives the biggest suggestion yet that he'll be part of the panel for 2024.

Replying To MachaireConnacht:  "He's deliberately sped up the footage to make it look worse. They must have been half a minute trying to get the ball out from under Ruane. Ruane did not react like a man that was stamped on. I'm sure if he was he would have stood up to Enda. It's not something Mayo management has complained about either."
Anyone that watches the full clip (still up on the TG4 player) will know there is nothing in that incident. The reaction of Matthew Ruane tells its own tale. What we have today is modern day "supporters" who sit at home instead of attending matches and go onto to twitter complaining during and after matches. Trying to get Enda Smith suspended calling him a thug etc for doing nothing wrong those "supporters" need to have a good long look at themselves they simply give the many thousands of good Mayo supporters a bad name.

Brigids back as the best in Connacht once again. Led from pillar to post and in truth never looked like losing. Might be disappointed about the goals conceded especially the one before half time but it was a solid defensive display and much the better attacking team. Both Stacks, Fallon, Frost, Nolan and Ben O'Carroll among the stand outs in a fine team performance. Pearses, Faithleachs, Castlerea and Brigids had now won 4 Connacht titles since 2021. Roscommon club football is very strong without a doubt.

Replying To dave1988:  "Did you say we were going to go out and beat cavan easy in the league?? we aren't a top class team. We have so many weaknesses in our team. I think Leitrim are coming into this game confident and will be well organised. It's going to be tougher than the last few years. I think we will win but I'll always give any team we play Respect."
I wouldn't be paying much attention to tashy he's Leitrim man pretending to be a rossie and seeking a reaction. You are correct Leitrim will be coming into this game confident and if they are as well organised as London was against Galway last Sunday it will be difficult encounter for us. They certainly deserve respect and should not be taken granted.

Pearse Frost I believe was asked in but declined due to injury. Was told Senan Lambe played for U20s in a challenge. Mods do your job and remove that wum hopballref (Galway) from this thread.

Replying To spion7:  "Firstly there was no queue to get rid of Anthony Cunningham .. people weren't happy with the Clare collapse but in the end he stepped away.. For the first time in many years we were competitive in every game ..we comfortably stayed in division one discarding the yo-yo tag..Roscommon have conceded big scores (4-24 x2,2-29 etc) at the top level under tryhe two previous managers ..we were 1-3 to zero down v Kerry,in previous years that would have been a minimum 10 point defeat but we nearly snatched a draw..same v Mayo when 7-0 down..he set about improving the defensive structure and largely succeeded although the lack of quality in certain positions cost us later on..we went to Croke park and low and behold didn't collapse at the sight of a blue jersey and left a win behind us. Maybe we ran out of steam later on but fought to the end v cork and were the victim of a poor ref call when looking like winners. Regular match going supporters see that they're is a plan in place and a team that will give everything for the manager. No body will be more disappointed than Davy with how it ended but this year he'll get a look at the club championship and I believe he'll improve us even more next year and hopefully turn those narrow defeats our way."
Well summed up for our curious Sligo friend whom choose to stop attending matches in the fear of getting stuck in Tulsk. Also I might add last year was Cunninghams 4th year and it was off the back of two straight tame knock out championship exits. Davy Burkes first year who's hand was dealt without three starters in Ronan Daly,Ultan Harney and Cathal Heneghan. Eddie Nolan unable to play in the league, Cian McKeon not starting a game until the championship and lost Tadhg O'Rourke on round 7 of the league when we were already light on midfield options. Clear structure to the team has been seen and able to mix it up on depending on opposition we played. 3rd in Div 1 and competitive in every game exceeded all league expectations when we were odds on for relegation. Championship was inconsistent when able to beat Mayo in Castlebar by a bit to spare, Drawing with Dublin and losing by 1 point with basically the last play of the game v Kildare and Cork but it was fine margins for example a long range free and we would have beaten Dublin topped the group and straight into the All-Ireland Quarter final. Had that happened it would have been our best league and championship season since 2001.

Lads have the sense not give trolls such as spiritofeslin and tashy any attention. All the best to Leitrim in qualifiers and Div 3 next year the latter will be more important to you as that is where the most improvement will come from.

Some of the info was given out by Anthony Cunningham on Sunday. As for the rest, I played and coached at various levels in this county and plenty of connections are picked up along the way.

Replying To letsgetgoing:  "On-line journalists Mark Donlon and Gary Connaughton also need to take a long hard look at themselves and decide if their recent articles and twitter attachments are biased, unfair and did not give a full and accurate account of what actually happened. In fairness to Enda Smith, Matthew Ruane, the linesman who was in very close proximity to the incidence and the referee, the camera angle gives a false impression of what actually happened. The evidence that I saw sitting close to the event in the stand and at a different angle to the TV camera was; * Matthew Ruane held on to the ball for a prolonged period of time on the ground, with Enda Smith using his hands trying to dislodge it. * With the ball lying between Matthew's his legs, Enda used his right foot trying to dislodge it. Most of the pressure of Enda's right foot came in contact with the ball and very little if any pressure came on to Matthew Ruane leg. * Matthew Ruane face did not grimace from any pain and he did not feel his leg. If a full stamp had occurred this would not be the case. In fairness to Matthew Ruane he did not confront Enda Smith or complain to the linesman who was right beside him at that time. He just got up and ran back into position. (Not the typical action of an injured player) * The linesman who saw all the action from very close up (Not from the angle of the TV camera) did not take any action. I would like to know why Mark Donlon could attach the full prolonged action of Enda Smith scoring the goal in his article but could not attach the full showing of the event he was mainly writing about in his article. He just attached a very biased and unfair twitter link, which was a distorted account of what actually happened. Gary Connaughton's article also attached the same twitter feed. Lads, you more of the evidence, why did you not use it? This is lazy, unprofessional and biased journalism who have blacked the name of one of our best and sporting players. At least have the decency to show the full account of what happened in your articles, and let all the GAA supporters decide for themselves! Not good enough. Fair play to all the Mayo supporters in the stand who were also close to the action. At least like Matthew Ruane, they did not make a big deal of it either."
Well said. Those on-line journalists work for Balls.ie,Extra.Ie two sites that don't care about accuracy of what they publish but all about click bait. Real gutter stuff. Extra is a parent of the tabloid awful of Daily Mail news rag.

The Next Senior Football Manager - 5 Like(s)
One can lose the run of themselves over that one result at the weekend if they want or look at what has happened since the turn of this decade, as since 2010 between senior, intermediate,Junior we had more than a dozen club sides that has reached Connacht club finals and 5 of those teams went on to reach All Ireland club finals with Brigids going on to win the All Ireland and the latest is Fuerty as they aim to become Connacht champions this Sunday and the very best of luck to them. Furthermore Roscommon played in 9 Connacht U21 finals between 2007 and 2016 and played in 2 All Ireland finals in that time (Mayo and Galway reached four Connacht final each in same period) A lot of those players went on to either win titles or perform well on their college teams. So this theory that Cunningham will struggle to find enough county players is very much a flawed one as far as i am concerned. I'd agree its tough challenging year ahead but the players are there and its up to this new management team to get the very best out of them.

Some weekend for you guys. Last night totally controlled the AI minor final in Hyde Park and today from the 20th minute took over as Derry couldn't handle the pressure you applied and energy, intensity. If Galway defend that well again why can't they win the final? Enjoy the rest of the weekend celebrations and best of luck in the final in two weeks

Dean Rock Announces His Retirement. - 5 Like(s)
Some player and consistent scorer. Somewhat underrated by pundits, media probably because they had their favourites in Con O'Callaghan, Connolly, Brogan etc to talk about more but for me not a hope would Dublin have won as much as they did without a free taker as good him a prime example that a good free taker should never be underestimated. Good eye for goal over the years also. A happy retirement to Dean.

Roscommon v Meath - 5 Like(s)

Replying To royaldunne:  "It's all about Sunday for me, playing Connaught champion at home after them been two years in division one, that we effectively handed them with a calamity from paddy. And still only lost out on head to head. It's all about this game, this is the start of Meath year. Not anything that went on in obc"
Its Connacht as us in the Republic of Ireland aren't under British rule anymore. We were leading and in control of that game before Paddy kicked it out short. Its wasn't a calamity like say Durcan with The Star in AI final as Senan Kilbride had to come in from the wing out muscled a defender and supplied a cool calm finish to the back of Paddys net. 2-9 to 0-10 we led then and John Evans then decided to play the tactics of what we have we hold which could have backfired as we only won by 2 points at the end but this Sunday I'll be more than happy to settle for Roscommon to win by one point playing poorly and less controlled as they do it.

What's Going On In Roscommon? - 5 Like(s)

Replying To Cuckoosinging:  "Cant speak for the North of the county but i spoke to a few lads from the South on last years panel and they were more than happy with O'Rourke and his proposed managment team. Dont throw all the panel under the bus because a few lads want there club mate or other lads want there friend over the team so they might get a starting position next yeat year. Secondly Aidan O'Rourke wasnt able to get the management team together that he said he was. Mike McGurn was advertising the S&C role online and Lacey wasnt fully committed."
I have talked to players north, south, east and west the last week and not one of them said they were unhappy with the O'Rourke appointment. All were just happy the management position was getting filled some lads had a little unrest because with a new manager on board they were unsure if they would get selected for the year ahead. Tarismelting22 throwing players under the bus is very poor form above and he or she should hear the facts before giving an opinion. Its true he wasn't able to get the management team together that he said he was and In hindsight we should never have considered such a poor management option like O'Rourke in the first place.
