Over 50,000 At LFGA Final - 4 Like(s)

Replying To arock:  "Maybe if you said something positive, very few free tickets, a lot of very low priced tickets very good deals on group tickets and that is how you grow a game/sport. Get the bums on in seats and then entertain them, they will come back and want to play simple. And it is working well."
How come almost nobody goes to the matches in the earlier knockout rounds. I hope the womens codes keep growing and continually get big crowds but what is wrong with pointing out the truth that the figure is not really a true reflection of general interest and is inflated through good marketing for a one-off game.

Although it's great to see it's no sign of a revolution just free tickets being given to schools/clubs and good promotion by the LGFA. To put things in perspective there were only a few hundred at the semi finals and quarter finals. A revolution would be getting 10s of thousands attending other championship game and it becoming a regular occurence. Apologies for seeming like I'm putting a downer on things.

Greatness - 3 Like(s)

Replying To Pope_Benedict:  "The standard of rival teams is hopeless imo. I think that puts a huge qualification on Dublin's 'greatness'. For example, both Tyrone & Galway fans realise that their current 'outfits' are seriously mediocre, compared to their silverware winning sides of the last 20 years. Sadly, Galway & Tyrone were two of the biggest rivals out there in 2018. Miles off Dublin, which means every other team is miles off them too. Mayo were a serious rival 2011-2017, but are 'finished' for the moment, as a rival to Dublin at least. The countrywide standard of intercounty football team is so poor currently that it's impossible to ascertain whether Dublin are great or not. They could be just the best of a bad lot really."
From 1968 there was not a single winner of the championship from Ulster or Connacht until 1991. When Kerry won there 4 in a row teams from Ulster and Connacht were going through a spell of about 20 years where they couldn't even beat a Leisnter or Munster team in the AI semi final. i think Dublin are great it take more than a good team to win 4 all ireland in a row and 6 in 8 years. They make a lot of the otehr teams look a lot worse than they really are.Mayo would have won multiple all irelands in the 1990's with the team they had in the last few years.

Should The GAA Introduce A Shot Clock In Gaelic Football? - 1 Like(s)

Replying To gotmilk:  "Jesus christ hasn't the average scores gone up in the game. What do people actually want?"
Clearly a post from somone who doesn't undertstand the issues turning people off the game. People don't want blanket defences. The don't want endless handpassing. The don't want negative styles of play. People want more of a contest for the ball all around the field. Peole want more open attacking football to be played. Juts because scoring is up does not mean the game is more entertaining scoring is higher because players are more skilful but the game is caught in an awful negative stalmate at the moment because the rules haven't adjusted as tactics have. The game needs to be saved from itself or it will gradually lose it's appeal.
