that's why we need to be up in the top tier. I think we'd give Dublin a fair rattle I'd like to see this happen. Congrats on the solid win and good luck for the rest of the competition.

Joe Quaid should be a good fit. He is ambitious and the timing might be right. If the players keep coming Westmeath can continue to improve. Best of luck.

Lopsided draw should have a few teams involved our side excited. Meath looks like a huge mountain from our perspective. Last year the only shock was that anyone would react in 'shock' at Wicklow taking out Offaly. There may be merit to the position that we were in disarray, but to not acknowledge that Wicklow had there homework done and were mentally prepared to go out and win would be arrogance of the highest order. Maughan has an uphill climb on his hands. All we can do is hope gen gets buy in and can lead us forward. Keeping expectations in Check here, but the throw in for this one is a long way off. Hoping we can make things a bit uncomfortable for you all the same. Time will tell. Good luck.

Replying To Wexboi92:  "It was worth the trip to tullamore just to see liam og back in a wexford jersey. I dont know the man but i was unbelievably proud of his dedication to get back on the team. What was more impressive was he looked fast and sharp. His striking obviously needs to get sharper but that will come. Im absolutely delighted for him. I thought when the game was in the melting pot we looked very impressive. Our movement was great. I thought mac was very good in the first half also which is good after last week. The second goal was brilliant. The way we worked the ball up the field. When i saw donoghue catch that ball i was even caught by as much surprise as the offaly players i dont think anyone saw him drift into that position. What a great pass then to Nolan. Rory again was first class. I think the penalty question is surely put to bed. That penalty by fanning was top class. Role on next week. I dont want to take anything away from our performance by talking about what Offaly brought to the game. Also id say duignan was sickened. Ive been reading articles the last few months where he was hinting at wexford being turned over in last nights game."
Whoa! That was rough. Congrats on the big win and good luck the rest of the way.

Congratulations to Louth. The best team won I understand (listened on radio). Heard the goal not given and gave thought to the horror show of 2010. Am disappointed to not win given we had chances to grab it at the end, but that how it goes. Best wishes going forward.

Hurling Manager - 1 Like(s)

Replying To preddan:  "the statement in the week leading up to the cork game was the factor for me.....defeatist attitude and playing then with two sweepers in the backs..no point being manager of any team at any level if you dont believe in the players you got"
Interesting point. We've seen the likes of it before. Pat Flanagan made a statement of a similar nature before he was let go from the footballers. No doubt there was more to it than that in both instances, but in both cases we have 'statements' followed by decisive action. Not familiar w the Westmeath County Board, but they certainly don't seem to have trouble making decisions - fair play to them for that. Good luck next year in the league in any case. Moving up is a big deal and a positive takeaway for 2019.

Haha Heffo!! It's actually the management of our burgeoning population that's causing the divide. Surprised to see you showing interest in this. Everything ok up in the capital??!

Congrats to Leitrim on the win today. Thought we might do it being 3 points up in extra time, but it was not to be. Great occasion in the Bronx. Huge, overflowing crowd and a really upbeat atmosphere. The pressure was on and you could tell. Some bad misses and errant passes on both sides, but full credit to Leitrim for knuckling down and making it happen. Felt NY forced the ball into double marked Jamie Clarke just a bit too much. Then when you'd see him win a high ball against 2 decent defenders the strategy seems to make more sense. In the end he was contained just enough. From where I was sitting (close to midfield as I got there an hour early) it was the Introduction of Dean McGovern that steadied the ship and gave Leitrim something to build on. Massive performance. NY had a safety valve (number 14) hanging about midfield. He was picking up the breaks and was always there when NY got jammed up to take the ball and do something useful with it. Dean won the first kick out when he came on the field then a number more. He also broke quite a few to his teammates. The advantage at midfield went from slightly New York to all Leitrim in a flash. Was the turning point of the game. Against the run of play New York had about a 7 minute stretch in extra time where they again dominated midfield. It took a massive effort for Leitrim to reel the game in, but so they did. Good luck going forward. Was a great day out. Would have been better had we won, of course, and it was oh so close, but that's how it goes. Hoping those that travelled enjoy the rest of their time. Again congrats to all Leitrim folk no matters where you may now reside.

Congrats on the win. Obviously disappointed. Westmeath's first half performance and general approach was very effective. Kildare may be harder, but not insurmountable by any means. Good luck going forward.

Congrats on the win and best wishes in the next steps. Think we have played better, but your team had something to do with that. Plus you did more than enough to take it as the score indicates. Throw it all at Dublin and good luck!
