Three goals from Tom Plunkett, Fionn Curley and Naoise McManus were key as Leitrim secured their first Connacht MFC victory over Galway since 1998 at Avant Money Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada yesterday evening.

Adrian Dockery's side's clinical finishing proved the difference in a historic 3-8 to 0-12 win as quickfire strikes by Plunkett and Curley left them two points in front at the break.

Galway fought back to level terms on the resumption through points from Colm Costello but the Tribesmen were dealt another blow with the concession of a third goal scored by substitute McManus and they never recovered from that.

Despite this impressive five-point victory, Leitrim have to settle for a place in the Connacht MFC Shield final against Roscommon, who ended up on the wrong side of a 1-16 to 0-15 scoreline at home to Sligo.

Galway, beaten in their last two outings, now meet Sligo in the Connacht MFC semi-finals as Mayo await the winners in the decider.
