Holders Ballymun Kickhams are out of the Dublin senior football championship after being edged by Lucan Sarsfields this evening.

Brendan Gallagher’s free deep in injury-time secured a 1-16 to 0-18 victory for Sarsfields, ushering them into the competition’s semi-finals and ousting last year’s champions in the process.

In what was a thrilling encounter at Parnell Park, CJ Smith’s 28th minute goal gave Sarsfields a one-point lead at the half (1-7 to 0-9) and five points from former Leitrim attack Gallagher would help them increase their lead to six midway through the second-half.

The champions fought back though and the scores of Fiach Andrews, Davy Byrne and Dean Rock (2) looked to have secured extra time before Gallagher’s late intervention spelled an end to their campaign.

In the earlier game, county midfielder Tom Lahiff and Seamus Ryan netted late goals as St Jude’s saw off Thomas Davis by 3-14 to 0-15 to advance to the last four in the capital.

Niall Coakley’s penalty helped St Jude’s to lead by two at the half and it would be tit-for-tat for the majority of the second-half until the late goals settled the issue for the runners up of 2018.
