Ciaran McDonald is set to leave his role as a coach with the Mayo senior football team, according to a report from Midwest Radio.

James Horan’s men fell to Tyrone in the All-Ireland SFC final this day last week, marking their second defeat in the Sam Maguire Cup decider since losing out to Dublin last December.

McDonald joined the Connacht champions’ set-up in December 2019 and has served as a coach with the team for the past two seasons.

There is now strong speculation that the former Mayo attacker is leaving his position with the team in the wake of the five-point defeat to the Red Hands at Croke Park.
